Boca Seniors 5 Putford 0

It wouldn't be May Bank Holiday without Boca Seniors in the Westward Ho! Cup Final and the annual tradition will be upheld once more this year after today's emphatic victory against Putford at the Tarka Centre.

Jake Crush got the ball rolling after twenty minutes. Following good work from Kurt Bayliss on the right Crush expertly guided the ball into the far corner of the net giving the Putford number one no chance.

One became two soon after, current goal machine James Davey powerfully met Richie Joslin's pinpoint cross with his head.

Five minutes into the second half Crush got his second and effectively killed off any challenge from the visitors.

Substitute Jordan Charran made amends for the previous day's penalty miss by drilling in an unstoppable strike into the top corner and leading scorer Tom Marsh made it five with ten minutes remaining.

It was an all-round excellent display and the presence of Matt Deakin in the midfield gave the home side that touch of class missing for some weeks. His continued inclusion will only go to strengthen the squad in the coming crucial matches, including next week's Westward Ho! Cup Final where Boca will hope to secure the trophy for a record fourth consecutive occasion.

Man-of-the-match: Liam Monsell - playing in his best position in the centre of midfield he gave Boca the energy and shape missing for some time.

Lineup: Babb, Alcock, Ovey, Ley, Daniel, Deakin, Monsell, Bayliss, Joslin, Charran, Crush; Subs: Found, Rogers, Charran, Marsh

Boca Seniors 2 Torrington 0

Spectacular it wasn't. But right now it's all about the victories. In fairness to both sides the state of the Tarka Centre pitch wasn't condusive to slick one-touch football. With an eye on the run-in and two games in a weekend the Boss shuffled the pack, resting skipper Lewis Ovey, Liam Monsell, Tom Marsh and Kurt Bayliss.

The visitors began brightly, creating the occasional half chance, Darren Babb saving well in a one-on-one situation. The deadlock was broken by the best move of the match. Daniel Found's powerful headed clearance found Richie Joslin who in turn found Jordan Charran. His cross was met by strike partner James Davey who guided the ball into the net. More signs of the partnership working well.

The hosts doubled the lead soon after, Davey again finding the net for his ninth in three games.

Charran missed a second half penalty and bar a few Torrie chances which they should have done better with, that was it.

Next up in the league, Bradworthy away. Always a very difficult place to win for many reasons. But Boca will have to cast everything aside if they want to secure a massive three points.

We're coming to the crunch now, the next three league games will arguably decide where the league trophy will reside for the next twelve months. But the signs look good for the Champions, plenty of goals and the fifth clean sheet in a row. Something not done for some time, if ever.

Man-of-the-match: Richie Joslin - after coming back from injury Jossie looks to have recaptured the form from last season. A good display on both wings.

Lineup: Babb, Ley, Alcock, Found, Daniel, Cowell, Galliford, Rogers, Joslin, Charran, Davey; Subs: Ovey, Bayliss, Monsell, Marsh

Ilfracombe Town Reserves 0 Boca Seniors 6

Two goals apiece from strike partners Jordan Charran and James Davey made it a combined total of twelve goals in two games providing Boca with the firepower they were sorely missing during March's dip in form. They are really forging an understanding up front and will give opposing defenders a hard time in the coming crucial weeks. Singles from Richie Joslin and Sid Daniel gave them all three points in a very good performance all round.

Another pleasing aspect of the victory was yet another clean sheet for the fourth consecutive match, especially important for the goal difference which may come into consideration when all's said and done.

Man-of-the-match: Shaun Ley - one of the first names on the sheet until recently but he regained his place and showed the Boss that he's up for the fight in the remaining games which is great news for Boca.

Lineup: Babb, Alcock, Ovey, Ley, Daniel, Joslin, Bayliss, Galliford, Maynard, Daniel, Charran, Davey; Subs: Found, Rogers, Marsh

Morwenstow 0 Boca Seniors 11

At this stage of the season, winning is everything. Scoring a hat full is a bonus. But points alone may not be enough to secure this season's title so goal difference is also massively important. Lagging behind in those stakes it was up to Boca to go and get a few today, and they did. Eleven to be precise.

James Davey's been getting man-of-the-match award accolades for his non-stop running and effort over recent weeks but hasn't been able to get off the mark since signing earlier in the year. He's just not got the luck his effort deserved. And even before he claimed his first of five goals today it looked like it was going to be another one of those days, hitting the upright and seeing another goal-bound effort saved well. He needn't have worried as he was soon off the mark, clipping over the oncoming keeper. The pick of his tally came in the first half following a slick move from back to front involving Daniel Found, Kurt Bayliss and strike partner Jordan Charran. Davey was on the end of the move, superbly volleying into the top corner from close range.

Charran himself chipped in with three of his own, all netted in the second half. He had a hand in most goals and is beginning to form a dangerous partnership with Davey.

Singles came from Tom Marsh, Ross Maynard and Shaun Ley to complete the rout, getting Boca back on the winning trail and improving the goal difference in the process.

Next up for Boca, a tricky away tie in mid-week at Ilfracombe. Nothing less than a win will do for Boca at the most critical stage of the season.

Man-of-the-match: James Davey - now added goals to his armoury, defences beware!

Lineup: Babb, Found, Alcock, Ovey, Marsh, Bayliss, Bishop, Maynard, Galliford, Marsh, Charran, Davey; Subs: Ley, Rogers, Cowell, Daniel, Joslin

Match report to follow...

Man-of-the-match: Darren Babb - the league's best keeper is in the form of his life right now.

Shamwickshire Rovers 0 Boca Seniors 2

It's been nearly four years since Boca Seniors were beaten in the Westward Ho! Cup. 2010 is the competition's centenary year and with the final being held in Boca's home town on May bank holiday weekend it's always a special day in the footballing calendar. Standing in the way of their quest for a fourth consecutive win today were one of the Premier League title contenders Shamwickshire, hoping to score another victory over Boca after this season's earlier victory at the Pollyfield Centre.

In fairness, it was a shadow of the Shammy side which beat Boca earlier this season but on home turf with a partizan following a win at the Sham Siro is always difficult.

The game started with the home side enjoying a good deal of possession seemingly the sharper of the two sides having played the day before. Chances for both sides were limited with neither team's keeper called into action. That was until a piece of tenacity by Giles Daniel. Dispossessing the Shammy defender on the touchline he drilled the ball back across goal to give an unmarked Ross Maynard the easy task of knocking the ball in with his thigh.

Daniel was involved in controversy soon after. Running on to strike partner James Davey's headed flick on he pulled clear and raced towards goal. With only the keeper to beat he rolled his studs over the ball and failed to get a proper connection. The keeper's momentum took him into Daniel's path and took the Boca man off his feet. Despite the shouts no penalty was awarded. After settling it was the visitors who clearly ended the half the stronger.

The second half followed much the same pattern as the first ended. Darren Babb continued his superb run of form by tipping several very dangerous in-swinging corners over the bar. But apart from those scares the Boca backline held firm led superbly by skipper Lewis Ovey. As the half wore on it was clear that Shammy were tiring after a game the day before and Boca's best chances to extend the lead came from counter attacking.

A flowing move on the left with Kurt Bayliss, Mike Cowell and James Galliford all involved almost led to the second but Bayliss' cross was blocked superbly with substitute Tom Marsh waiting at the back post.

With minutes remaining it was two. Substitute Jake Crush racing clear on the counter to finish low to put the visitors into the semi-final once more where they will meet Putford at the Tarka Centre.

So a good win, this one ground out by a true team effort from front to back. Although everyone played their full part, in particular Darren Babb's continued good form, James Galliford's influence in the middle and James Davey's non-stop effort up top will be particularly pleasing to the Boss.

And that will be needed in nine days time they meet Shamwickshire once more. This time in the league. The biggest game of the season without doubt for both sides. And Boca will expect to meet a completely different Shammy side hoping to complete the most famous of doubles. But Boca themselves will hope to be back to full strength with Richard Joslin, Jordan Charran and Liam Monsell hopefully returning to action.

Man-of-the-match: James Davey - the recent signing has yet to get off the mark goal-wise but his non-stop running and effort more than makes up for it. The goals will come soon enough...

Lineup: Babb, Alcock, Found, Ovey, Bayliss, Bishop, Rogers, Maynard, Galliford, Daniel, Davey; Subs: Ley, Cowell, Crush, Marsh

Boca Seniors 2 North Molton 1

Losing arguably your four best players to other clubs (both football and golf), a terrible injury, THAT awful refereeing decision, matches abandoned when winning only to lose the replay, this season's list of rotten luck is as long as the list of honours accumulated by Boca over the recent seasons. But as most will testify, you make your own luck in this game. And if it weren't for a gutsy display today, maybe the gods wouldn't have smiled upon the reigning league champions as they did.

There's been some scratching of heads in recent weeks. What's gone wrong? Who's to blame? How do we change it? Maybe there's been too much analysing? There was no time for discussion after last week's defeat. It was now time to put up or shut up against the team who've been hanging onto Boca's shirt tails since day one, North Molton. Certain players may have come and gone, but Boca can still call on stalwarts Lewis Ovey, Darren Babb and Giles Daniel, the only three surviving players from the title winning side of 2005/06 as they hope to become the only players ever to achieve the five Premier titles in a row. If Boca were going to beat the Stags today they would need all of their experience.

And so to the match. And with a new Boca came a new tradition, a team huddle prior to the kick-off. Often mocked before when other teams have done it but today it felt right. A show of solidarity and team spirit.

The action kicked off with things rather even, which given the obvious hope being instilled into the visitors given Boca's recent form was to be expected. Both sides were cancelling each other out until fifteen minutes in when James Galliford's beautifully delivered corner was deflected into his own net by the flat-footed Molton defender. Finally, some luck.

But there was nothing lucky about what happened next. For the third game in a row Boca conceded a penalty, but cometh the hour cometh the man. Darren Babb proving he's still number one in the Premier League with a great save to his right.

Babb was called into action again soon after with another great low save parried away to safety.

Jordan Charran saw some half chances whistle just over from the edge of the penalty area and James Galliford's fierce free kick was blocked by his fellow team mate.

Piece of luck number two came in the form of another conceded penalty, this one a little more unfortunately awarded. Super Babb not needed on this occasion as the same penalty taker blazed high, wide and not so handsomely.

So at half-time, the general synopsis of the game was that it was very evenly contested very much there to be won by either side.

Into the second half on the increasingly heavy Tarka pitch the Boca backline were sinking further and further back as the minutes wore on. Molton went close through half chances but Boca held firm led superbly by a 3/4 fit skipper Lewis Ovey. He however, was powerless to prevent the equaliser which came with twenty minutes remaining, hesitancy being punished allowing the Molton striker to round Babb and poke home from close range. Game on. And it could've gone either way. It went to Boca from, you've guessed it, the penalty spot. Nerves were jangling on the side lines after today's misses and last week's miss from Richard Shannon, but Jordan Charran showed nerves of steel after a short delay to blast home, ultimately what turned out to be the winner. That was before piece of luck number three, a piece of pure devine intervention.

Finding himself one on one with Babb, the Molton striker was forced wide but still managed to get a scuffed shot away. The ball spun wildly and trickled very slowly under the despairing dive of Babb and through the legs of Daniel Found, onto the post. With the way the ball was spinning surely it would cross the line? No, somehow it came off the post and avoided all of the legs of the oncoming visiting players. An incredible end to a competitive game played by two good, even sides. Today, was Boca's day though. And at the risk of sounding biased, it's about time too!

There'll be no more talk of woe or of players come and gone on this site. Those no longer playing for the club will be rightly confined to the legends page for they made this club what it is. There's a new story being written now, one with twists and turns on every page to rival that of a Dan Brown thriller. The question is, will it have a happy ending? The new Boca will certainly be trying their hardest to make sure it does.

Man-of-the-match: Darren Babb - key saves, including one from the spot. Boca will need all the experience and ability of the big guy if they're to claim this season's title.

Lineup: Babb, Ley, Found, Ovey, Bishop, Bayliss, Maynard, Galliford, Daniel, Charran, Davey; Subs: Alcock, Marsh, Rogers, Monsell

Combe Martin 3 Boca Seniors 0

Wednesday and Thursdays aren't Boca Manager Darren Todd's favourite days at the moment. North Devon Gazette and Journals posted through the letterbox aren't delivering good news for a beleagered Boca side facing the biggest test to their domination since their first North Devon League Premier title back in 2006. And this week's editions are going to be even less favourable judging by today's result against Combe Martin.

Defeat today means that a title race which was already very open has now been blown wide apart. An unprecedented nine teams can realisitically claim this year's league title and it looks like it's going to go right down to the wire, maybe to even rival the drama of the 95/96 season when Fremington and Shamwickshire met on the last day to decide the champion? But back to today's game...

Except for influential skipper Lewis Ovey still out with a hamstring injury, Boca were able to call on a full strength side with Richard Shannon returning from holiday and Liam Monsell from injury.

When it's not going your way the most important thing is not to give anything away early on. Unfortunately, after a positive opening few minutes Boca conceded, giving the Combe Martin striker far too much room to control, turn and poke home from close range. A nightmare scenario given the events of the previous week. Nightmare looked as though it was going to turn to catastrophe after twenty minutes when Luke Alcock was adjudged to have brought his opponent down for a penalty. Luckily for Boca the spot kick was tamely dragged wide. that seemed to settle the visitors and they managed to get hold of the ball in the midfield, mostly thanks to the skills of James Galliford. Despite arguably shading possession and having one effort cleared off the line Boca failed to create any real opoortunities for strike partnership Jordan Charran and James Davey. They also found a very dangerous Combe Martin counter attack very difficult to contend with, Darren Babb being forced into an acrobatic save just before half time.

The second half began with Boca on the offensive but still failing to create any real chances. Just after the hour mark cam the sucker punch. And how. The Combe striker finding space twenty five yards out was allowed to get a strike away unchallenged and it absolutely flew into the top left corner. Nothing that Babb could do about that one, he didn't even see it.

Then, a lifeline. The referee decided that Tom Marsh was having his shirt tugged in the area. Penalty to Boca. Without usual penalty taker Mark Barrow now long gone it was up to the returning Shannon to slot home, but his tame strike found the arms of the thankful Combe keeper. That was the chance and Boca knew it. The final blow came a minute from the end with Boca high up the field.

So, more headlines to be expected in mid-week. Tales of the magnificent ten and all that. The fact is that on the day Combe Martin thoroughly deserved the win. From the experience up front to the superbly marshalled back line to the battling midfield, this is a team very capable of winning this league. And if they didn't realise it before the game they do now. But there's still a long way to go and if there's two things I can guarantee: 1-there's still some twists and turns left with all teams in contention having to play each other and 2-Boca won't give up until the end. It's not in their nature.

Man-of-the-match: James Davey - ran himself into the ground and has the cramp to prove it.

Lineup: Babb, Ley, Alcock, Bishop, Monsell, Daniel, Maynard, Bayliss, Galliford, Charran, Davey; Subs: Found, Rogers, Shannon, Marsh, Ovey

Boca Seniors 0 Georgeham 1

The rollercoaster ride that is Boca's season took another loop the loop at a sunny Tarka Centre today as they were beaten at home in the league for the first time this season. Like last season it was Georgeham who inflicted the defeat to last year's champions.

Georgeham dominated the first half and deservedly took the lead after fifteen minutes albeit gifted to them via the penalty spot following Shaun Ley's rash challenge. They could and should have extended the lead and would have had it not been for some good keeping from Darren Babb. Georgeham were reduced to ten men on the half hour following a horrific challenge on Richie Joslin earned the young Hammers midfielder a straight red card.

At half time some choice words were provided by the boss and it appeared to work in terms of Boca becoming more of an attacking threat. The issue in the second half was not the lack of creating chances but the failure to convert them. Tom Marsh, Ross Maynard, Richie Joslin, Kurt Bayliss and debutant James Davey all went close and should have scored in all honesty.

With their eagerness to press forward for the equaliser Boca left themselves open at the back and rode their luck on occasions but despite a much improved second half performance they failed to get the leveller.

Anyone who thought that this race is a foregone conclusion can think again. This will be the most open title race for several years.

Next up for Boca: Combe Martin away followed by North Molton at home. Two title rivals. As Brian Moore once said after Michael Thomas famously scored 'that' goal for Arsenal at Anfield in 1989 "it's up for grabs now!".

Man-of-the-match: James Galliford - second debut for the ex-Braunton man. The only player to put his foot on the ball and try to play.

Lineup: Babb, Ley, Found, Alcock, Joslin, Bayliss, Galliford, Maynard, Cowell, Marsh, Davey; Subs: Daniel, Rogers, Bishop

Hartland 1 Boca Seniors 5

After Tuesday's fiasco, Saturday just couldn't come quick enough for Boca and with all due respect to today's opponents, this was the perfect fixture to get the campaign back on track once again. There were some very angry and disappointed voices in the Bideford dressing room, each one of them now even more determined given how the events of this season have unfolded so far.

But when you play at Hartland, you may be playing a spirited side battling hard to retain their premier league status but you also have to contend with arguably the worst pitch in the league. Having six regulars out of action for various reasons never helps either.

For the first ten minutes Boca contended well. Knocking the ball around reasonably well they were rewarded with an early goal. Luke Alcock opened his Boca account arriving at the back post of a Kurt Bayliss corner. However, as has ocurred on too many occasions this season Boca were punished for a lapse in concentration. One-all. That goal seemed to galvanise the home side and disrupt the visitors and the game became a much scrappier affair. At that stage quality was certainly lacking in most departments. That was until man-of-the-match Mike Cowell neatly finished another Bayliss corner, side-footing into the top corner from close range.

A penalty shout for Hartland was waved away early in the second half and that was their last real attempt on Darren Babb's goal. Boca completely dominated the second half and added goals from Bayliss, Tom Marsh and a first for recent signing Wayne Parkhouse. Parkhouse himself had an earlier penalty claim denied but he wasn't to be denied his first goal after springing the offside trap and superbly finishing around the oncoming keeper.

It could have been many more if not for a great display from the Hartland keeper but after a week of ups and downs Boca were just pleased with the three points.

Boca will be hoping for a similar result next week as they host Barnstaple rivals the Ammies in probably the biggest head-to-head between the two sides.

Man-of-the-match: Mike Cowell - scored a nice goal and could have had a hat-trick of headers if not for some good goalkeeping.

Lineup: Babb, Alcock, Ley, Found, Bayliss, Maynard, Cowell, Ovey, Bayliss, Marsh, Parkhouse; Subs: Ackland

Bideford Reserves 2 Boca Seniors 1

As refereeing decisions go, it was up there with the worst of them. With three minutes remaining the man in black inexplicably disallowed Tom Marsh's goal and brought the play back to where Ross Maynard had been chopped down only seconds before. If their opponents defenders and goalkeeper had stopped when the foul was made you could maybe understand the ref's point of view, but the fact that every effort was made to prevent Marsh from claiming the equaliser only strengthened the disappointed Boca player's argument. To rub salt into Boca wounds, the foul, clearly made on the edge of the penalty area was 'rewarded' with a free-kick some ten yards behind the actual place where the offence took place.

It was the last in a series of errors from the official who generally had a poor match even by his own admission. In fairness though, it was mistakes which led to the champions going behind twice, ultimately costing them vital points in the title run in.

A lack of concentration saw them go one behind ten minutes into the second half, allowing Bideford's centre half to ghost a header in at the back post.

Skipper Lewis Ovey soon brought the teams level heading in from a corner but a combination of a second lapse in concentration and a wicked deflection saw the home side take the lead and all three points.

Man-of-the-match: Daniel Found - the ex-Barnstaple Town Reserves player is really beginning to prove the doubters wrong and looks very comfortable at the back alongside the impressive Shaun Ley and Luke Alcock.

Lineup: Babb, Ley, Found, Alcock, Ovey, Maynard, Daniel, Joslin, Bayliss, Charran, Crush; Subs: Marsh, Deakin

Braunton 0 Boca Seniors 3

After the well publicised loss of some big players added to the shock of the events of last Sunday, the last thing that Darren Todd needed was to lose any more from the squad. Unfortunately, both Taro Bishop and Wayne Parkhouse were late withdrawls from today's game for family reasons. It seemed like someone up there was conspiring against the Boca Manager.

But this is a brand new Boca team. Only six in today's lineup from that which started the Devon Premier Cup Final in May. One with something to prove, one galvanised by the injury to their mate and one out to show a few doubters out there that they're still the team to beat.

You could see from the attitude in training that there was a renewed sense of purpose and a whole new reason to win the fifth title. The question was, could they take it onto the field against championship contenders Braunton?

The answer was an emphatic 'yes'. Sporting alice bands in a tribute to the injured Chris Collins (watching on from the warmth of his car) the visitors soaked up early Braunton pressure and took the lead after fifteen minutes. Finding space out wide, Kurt Bayliss powered down the line cut inside his man and unleashed a curling left footed effort inside the back post. Braunton responded immediately and should have converted a good chance after breaking down the Boca left.

Boca themselves turned it up a notch and were denied on two occasions by the Braunton stand-in keeper. First a chance from Tom Marsh tipped wide and the second a save good enough to grace a game at any level, from Giles Daniels' top corner bound header.

The reward for their pressure came with ten minutes remaining of the first half. Lewis Ovey nodded onto fellow midfielder Ross Maynard who skinned his brother Scott, drove into the box and finished well. Again Braunton responded and should have done better once more in front of goal in a carbon copy of their previous chance.

Braunton are always dangerous and Boca are never the best at holding a two nil lead so the next goal was going to be crucial, and it came within minutes of the restart. Jordan Charran capped an excellent performance alongside Tom Marsh with a well taken goal, turning on a sixpence and drilling wide of the keeper's dive.

Kurt Bayliss had a chance to make it four soon after following a pin point ball from 'Der Kaiser' Lewis Ovey, revelling in his new position as midfield anchor, but he could only fire wide.

As the half wore on the game became scrappier and turned into a stop-start affair as the home side picked up a flurry of yellow cards with Boca reducing them to half chances from set pieces. When the Boca backline was breached they found a back three in irresistable form and late on Darren Babb made a great save to maintain the precious clean sheet.

On the final whistle most of the Boca team went to Collins to congratulate with their unfortunate team mate, a victory which they dedicated to him. They will hope that they can dedicate the fifth league title to him too come May. With performances like this they may just do that, but there's a long way to go yet.

Man-of-the-match: Lewis Ovey - in fairness, the list of potential man-of-the match awards could have come from a number of people but the skipper was immense. A class apart.

Lineup: Babb, Alcock, Found, Ley, Daniel, Ovey, Maynard, Bayliss, Joslin, Charran, Marsh; Subs: Cowell, Rogers, Ackland

Boca Seniors 2 Bradworthy 0

What a difference a few days make. Hardly recognisable from the horror show which was the Torrington performance, Boca banished some recent bad memories with an excellent display against a Bradworthy side looking to overtake them in the race for the title.

From the first minute the home dictated the tempo and put their opponents under pressure, not giving them any time to settle. That tactic paid almost instant dividends with the game's first goal on ten minutes. Richie Joslin was on hand to turn the ball in from close range following the impressive Chris Collins' headed flick on. That wasn't the first or last header that Collins was to win during a powerhouse first half display in the middle of midfield. And it was the same combination involved in Boca's deserved second. Collins' superb ball from inside his own half picked out striker Joslin who finished expertly into the far corner like he'd been playing in that position all his life.

The second half was a much tighter affair and got scrappier the more the half went on and pitch cut up. But much to the delight of Darren Todd a young Boca side went toe-to-toe with their tough tackling opponents and came out on top, thanks to a united performance from front to back.

The display was particularly pleasing as big changes were made in personnel and positions, seemingly paying off instantly. And Boca will need the entire depth of the squad in the coming matches, especially next week's massive game at Braunton.

Man-of-the-match: Taro Bishop - once again skipper Lewis Ovey was the lynchpin in the side but Taz celebrated becoming a Dad for ther second time last week with a great display full of end to end running and hard tackling.

Lineup: Babb, Ley, Ovey, Alcock, Found, Maynard, Collins, Bayliss, Bishop, Parkhouse, Joslin; Subs: Charran, Marsh, Rogers, Cowell

Torrington 2 Boca Seniors 0

Opportunities for silverware are becoming less and less for Boca as the season goes on after defeat to Torrington in the second round of the Brayford Cup.

Despite the terrible surface it was Boca who started the match the brighter and were unlucky not to take the lead through Richie Joslin's header, with the makeshift striker heading over the bar from close range.

Torrington though, flying high in the Premier League after promotion from the Senior Division last season began to take control in the middle of the park and took the lead after twenty five minutes. The Greens' right back found his passage to the penalty area unchallenged, fired in a cross which was well converted, low past Darren Babb between the sticks.

Boca struggled to respond and failed to find their rhythm and were punished for some weak tackling with minutes to go before half time as Torrie went two clear.

Strong words at half time certainly galvanised the Boca back three of Lewis Ovey, Shaun Ley and Luke Alcock but they could hardly be blamed for the poor general first half showing. It was as an attacking threat where Boca failed to shine and in all honesty could have found themselves even further in trouble during an even second half.

Substitute Tom Marsh failed to convert a half-chance late on after Kurt Bayliss' speedy run and cross but that was as close as it got for the 2007 winners of this competetion.

That's three defeats in four games and the first time that Boca failed to register a goal in a league or cup match for over five years. Not the sort of stats that Darren Todd likes to see. So now we'll see what the champions are really made of. After the recent loss of key players Mark Barrow and Richard Shannon added to that of Lee Langmead and Matt Deakin in pre-season, with several teams breathing down their neck, most of North Devon will be watching closely to see just how they respond. If the last few weeks is anything to go by, the omens don't look good.

Next up, arguably the biggest game of the season so far, Bradworthy. A team who can overtake Boca should they beat them and win their games in hand. Surely no better incentive than that?

Man-of-the-match: Lewis Ovey - put in a captain's performance. And they're going to need him in the coming months.

Lineup: Babb, Ovey, Ley, Alcock, Bishop, Bayliss, Daniel, Maynard, Rogers, Joslin, Collins; Subs: Harper-Penman, Deakin, Cowell, Found, Marsh

Appledore Reserves 4 Boca Seniors 3

After three weeks without a game this was always going to be a difficult tie. But Boca as much as anyone know that it is in situations like this where titles are won and lost. Lining up with a full squad and new signings on the bench confidence was high.

As usual the Marshford surface proved to be the best in the league and the match began with both teams sharing possession. Once the game settled down it was Appledore who had the first chance but only managed to put the ball into the side netting. Soon after Boca were let off again with another squandered chance. It was a sign of things to come as minutes later the home side deservedly took the lead finishing low at the back post.

But whilst you've got Richard Shannon on the pitch you've always got a chance to score and he did five minutes after conceding, punishing an error at the back, finishing in the usual style.

It was obvious that it was going to be one of those days when almost directly from the restart Appledore punished more slack defending and retook the lead. Minutes later, after good work from Taro Bishop down the right Richie Joslin's front post free kick was bundled home by Mike Cowell to once again bring the scores level.

With seconds in the first half remaining Appledore had yet another great chance but this time the effort was saved by Darren Babb. Lots to discuss during the half time interval.

Boca began the second half brightly but failed to create any real chances. As the half wore on the home side started to enjoy the lion's share of possession and began to knock the ball around very nicely, leaving their opponents chasing shadows at times. Appledore were the better side at that stage and once again took the lead, this time an unstoppable drive in off the back post.

Darren Todd used this as the right time to introduce new signings Wayne Parkhouse and Jordan Charran and the change almost paid dividends immediately. Charran's pacy run and cross was met acrobatically by Parkhouse's diving header but somehow the Appledore keeper tipped the ball over the bar without knowing a great deal about it.

Parkhouse came close on two more occasions but found the keeper in inspired form. The tactical change looked like it may work out but the visitors were starting to struggle to get the ball up front thanks to more pressure from their hosts. Appledore had more chances to extend the lead including one attempt hitting the bar but were finally rewarded with their slick football with ten minutes remaining after a mix up at the back. At that stage it looked all over for Boca.

Charran reduced the deficit with two minutes left on the clock and had one final chance via a free kick on the edge of the box but failed to convert. But in fairness, a draw would have been unfair on Appledore as they fully deserved to take all three points.

Next up for Boca, Bideford Reserves, another title contender. And after today's defeat it's arguably turned into the biggest game of the season so far.

Man-of-the-match: Chris Collins - ran off his Christmas turkey in the first five minutes and didn't stop all game, save for some cramp midway through the second half. Didn't deserve to be on the losing side.

Lineup: Babb, Ley, Alcock, Ovey, Daniel, Maynard, Cowell, Bishop, Joslin, Shannon, Collins; Subs: Found, Bayliss, Rogers, Parkhouse, Charran

Boca Seniors 8 Putford 0

Braces from Richie Joslin, Chris Collins and Taro Bishop in addition to singles from Mark Barrow and Richard Shannon emphatically sealed the final three points of a very eventful 2009 for Boca against a young Putford side.

Despite difficult conditions, for the second week running the home side were able to play some decent football and generally dominated from start to finish except for a small period near the end of the first half where their concentration waivered.

With top scorer Tom Marsh out injured fellow striker Collins took his opportunity with a typical hard working performance. Joslin too, with possibly something to prove after last week's costly dismissal put in a great display laying the red card to rest.

Boca were also able to give debuts to new signings Aiden Harper-Penman and Joe Rogers, both of who freshened up the Boca lineup, showing some nice touches along the way.

So that's goodbye 2009, hello 2010. If next year brings a fraction of this year's success Darren Todd and his men will be very happy indeed.

Man-of-the-match: Chris Collins - given the opportunity to stake a claim for a regular place and took it with both hands. Maybe some selection dilemmas ahead for the Manager?

Lineup: Cole, Ley, Ovey, Alcock, Bishop, Barrow, Maynard, Cowell, Joslin, Collins, Shannon; Subs: Bayliss, Harper-Penman, Monsell, Daniel, Rogers

Boca Seniors 1 Liverton United 2

The glorious run is over. There will be no dramatic evenings in Tiverton this season as Liverton United became the first team to defeat Boca in the Devon Premier Cup since Plymouth Parkway way back in September 2007.

Facing a side from the Peninsula East for the first time this campaign the fuse was lit even before a ball was kicked, the Liverton management very unhappy about the state of the Tarka pitch. Nevertheless, with the referee's insistance the game went ahead, and those calls for the match to be abandoned were soon forgotten little less than three hours later.

When all the nonsense pre-match disappeared the game began but it was soon apparent that it wasn't going to be a festival of football. Boca had the first chance to take the lead through Richard Shannon but he was unable to lift the ball over the Liverton keeper.

Arguably against the run of play and with their first real opportunity to score, the visitors took the lead, some slack marking being punished by an easy header in the six yard box. Boca's response was swift and emphatic. Mike Cowell's persistence put in Mark Barrow who lashed home spectacularly in off the cross bar from an acute angle. Game definitely on.

Both teams had decent shouts for penalties but were both waived away by the referee.

With things heating up on and off the pitch Tom Marsh found himself one on one with the keeper but he could only pull his shot wide much to his and his team mates' frustration. He soon had to leave the game with an ankle injury picked up during that chance.

At the break both team's fancied their chances in what had turned out to be quite an exciting contest with good chances for each side.

The visitors began the second half brighter and enjoyed the Lion's share of the possession without really troubling Darren Babb in the Boca goal. On the hour mark came the game's turning point as Boca found themselves down to ten men, Richie Joslin sent off for kicking out.

Minutes later as Boca tried to organise they were undone by one through ball and Babb, finding himself one on one was adjudged to have brought down his opponent. Despite claiming his innocence, Babb was shown a yellow card and even got a hand to the resulting penalty kick, but was unable to keep the ball out of the net.

Two-one down and one man down. Was this to be another famous Boca comeback? No. Despite taking some chances leaving themselves exposed at times they pressed forward. With ten minutes remaining Jake Crush drove forward, wriggled free of a challenge and was brought down. Inside the box he felt. Unfortunately for Crush the referee disagreed and gave a free-kick right on the edge of the box. Mark Barrow was unable to convert in his usual style. Boca pushed hard til the end but it just wasn't to be.

It's Liverton who go into Monday's draw on Radio Devon and not Boca. Still, at least they still have five months to remember that they are still champions of Devon. And there's a small matter of a fifth consecutive league title to contend with which in fairness was always the priority.

Man-of-the-match: Luke Alcock - pushed hard for the award by Richie Joslin until his moment of madness but Luke put in a solid display. A proper defensive performance for a proper cup tie.

Lineup: Babb, Ovey, Alcock, Cowell, Joslin, Barrow, Daniel, Maynard, Bishop, Shannon, Marsh; Subs: Ley, Bayliss, Collins, Crush

North Molton Sports Club 0 Boca Seniors 3

Just before Boca Manager Darren Todd goes to bed his mug of cocoa will taste a little sweeter this evening as just above the roaring fire and the mantelpiece is a new addition to the wall. A brand new Stag's head, complete with giant antlers. Freshly hunted from the fields of Exmoor this afternoon.

All the talk in the weeks leading up to the game was of rutting Stags, looking to prize the title from the hands of the four-time champions. In all honesty, the Molton challenge was as damp as the horrendous conditions at Rocksfield. The mind games backfired on the hosts even before the game had started, the plan to warm up indoors and leave it til the very last minute to take to the pitch rather than 'aclimbatize' to the poor conditions resulted in eleven shivering players at kick-off.

Boca lined up at pretty much full strength with last week's break enabling the squad to shake off a few knocks and strains. And they began well, playing down the slope. The first real chance fell to Richard Shannon who turned cleverly in the box but his low shot was well parried by the Molton 'keeper. Mark Barrow turned the ball over the bar from the rebounded effort.

North Molton's No.1 was in action soon after, superbly tipping over Lewis Ovey's fierce drive. After half an hour former Stag Tom Marsh found himself unmarked at the back post but couldn't divert his header goalwards. Boca were becoming frustrated at not being able to convert their dominance into goals, arguably the story of the season so far. But even though the scores remained level at the break the champions were satisifed with the performance until that point.

It took sixty seconds into the second half for Boca to take a deserved lead and it came from another former Stag. After a fluid move, racing onto Shannon's pass Richie Joslin unleashed an unstoppable strike into the centre of the net. One should have been two soon after. Mark Barrow, finding the ball at his feet after another flowing move could only guide the ball tamely towards goal and the Molton goalkeeper made an easy save.

It was clear that the second goal in the game was going to be crucial. Molton pressed but rarely troubled Darren Babb. With half an hour remaining one did finally become two with Shannon grabbing his customary goal in his usual style.

Substitute Chris Collins added a third with his first touch of the game to wrap things up. With not many other matches being played due to the adverse conditions Boca are now six points clear of today's hosts but know that there's still a long way to go in the title race. But if today's great team performance is anything to go by the signs look ominous for the challengers. Oh 'deer'!

Man-of-the-match: Taro Bishop - not started the season as he ended last but put in his best display of the season. However, the award could have come from any one of about five players in red and black today.

Lineup: Babb, Found, Ovey, Alcock, Daniel, Maynard, Barrow, Bishop, Joslin, Shannon, Marsh; Subs: Cowell, Bayliss, Collins, Ley

Shamwickshire 3 Boca Seniors 2

"Halloween Horror Show", "Boca Nightmare", the tabloids would have a field day. And on the 31st of October Boca came to the Pollyfield in fancy dress...as Jekyll and Hyde. Doctor Jekyll got them from two nil down to all square, Mr Hyde conceded a late winner to give the hosts all three points.

In a generally scrappy first half Shammie were gifted the opener thanks to some slack marking and poor concentration from the Boca backline. That was the first real chance for either side and that's how it stayed until the break.

One became two ten minutes into the second half, the unfortunate Daniel Found seeing the ball deflect off his head into his own net from a dangerously whipped corner.

Boca Boss Darren Todd acted immediately, introducing Liam Monsell to the fray and it paid dividends straight away. His superb cross found Richard Shannon at the back post and he expertly vollyed home from close range. Another inspired substitution saw Tom Marsh replace the hard working Chris Collins and soon after it was two all. Working the ball onto his right foot Marsh gently curled the ball into the top right corner.

With the scores locked at two apiece and Boca very much on top, they went close with a combination of the heads of Tom Marsh and Giles Daniel hitting the bar and after superbly cutting through the Shammy right back, Richie Joslin fired across the area with the goal at his mercy. But instead of making their possession count it was the home side who snatched the win thanks to more poor defending.

If Boca didn't realise that this was going to be the toughest season since first winning the premier division title in 2005/06 they do now. Wake up call? Sign of things to come? The beginning of the end of the reign of Boca? Let's see. One thing's for sure, this defeat will give extra confidence to the surrounding teams hoping to knock them off their perch.

Man-of-the-match: Daniel Found - since getting sent off last Saturday Foundy's attitude has been spot on. Brave from the first whistle, didn't get beaten in the air all afternoon and kept it simple with his feet. He was pushed all the way by fellow defender Luke Alcock who also put in a pretty faultless display.

Lineup: Babb, Ovey, Alcock, Found, Joslin, Bayliss, Bishop, Barrow, Daniel, Collins, Shannon; Subs: Monsell, Cowell, Maynard, Marsh

Morwenstow 0 Boca Seniors 2

Liverpool versus Man Utd, roast dinners and contagious ankle injuries. All reasons not to travel to North Cornwall on a Sunday afternoon. But those who made the journey will have been pleased that they did after a heavily depleted Boca side banished the memory of yesterday's abject performance with their best 90 minute display of the season.

Missing six regular players Boca lined up against Morwenstow's first eleven in a Torridge Cup competition they've only won just the once, very famously back in the 2007/08 season.

The game began evenly with the home side playing down the slope in their usual direct fashion. Once Boca settled down they began to take the game to the Greens, and at times in some style. The front two of Tom Marsh and Chris Collins worked tirelessly, never giving the back line a moments peace. Clear cut opportunities were limited but Boca certainly shaded it overall. After half an hour they should have been one clear, or at least been given the chance to be from the penalty spot. Giles Daniels absolute 'stone waller' was waived away by the referee. Morwenstow were let off the hook, and anyone watching or playing knew it. It remained level at half time but Boca were bouyed by the positive first half display.

It didn't take long for Devon's finest to take the lead. Starting even better than they finished the first half, after a determined run from Kurt Bayliss and cross by Richie Joslin, Jake Crush finished off the flowing move slotting home from close range.

The Morwenstow fightback never materialised and Boca pressed to extend the lead. Collins was unlucky to hit the post and if it weren't for some great goalkeeping it could have been much worse. But for all the Green's No. 1's efforts Boca soon extended the lead thanks to a great header from Tom Marsh, connecting well with skipper Giles Daniel's corner.

The unfortunate Collins was to be denied again late on by another great save and although he didn't manage to get on the scoresheet put in a great performance which deserved a goal.

So the bandwagon rolls on. But with a difficult away fixture at Shamwickshire next Saturday on a key day in the title race no one's getting carried away.

Man-of-the-match: Chris Collins - unlike yesterday, this could have come from anyone of about eight players but Collins nicks it for his hardworking performance which deserved a goal.

Lineup: Babb, Ley, Alcock, Joslin, Found, Bayliss, Crush, Barrow, Daniel, Collins, Marsh; Subs: Ovey, Harper-Penman

Boca Seniors 6 Ilfracombe Reserves 3

The worst performance of the season so far was enough to see off an Ilfracombe side languishing near the bottom of the table. With an eye on tomorrow's cup match at Morwenstow and to keep the squad competitive Darren Todd made some changes to the side which beat Barnstaple AAC last week.

It was Ilfracombe who took the lead punishing some very slack defending from front to back.

Both teams were reduced to ten men after a bout of handbags after fifteen minutes which arguably helped Boca on the smaller Tarka pitch.

Giles Daniel drew the teams level after running on to Mark Barrow's excellent reverse pass and slotting under the 'keeper.

Barrow himself got on the act from the penalty spot soon after. He added a second and skipper Lewis Ovey powerfully headed home to make it four. Unfortunately, once again on the stroke of half-time, a defensive error allowed 'Combe to reduce the deficit.

Disappointment in conceding that goal turned to horror as Ilfracombe snatched a third to really put the pressure on the champions. But thanks to good work from substitute Kurt Bayliss, Tom Marsh drove home to restore the two goal lead.

Barrow claimed his hat-trick shortly after in style with a superb 25 yard free kick which sailed into the top corner.

Man-of-the-match: Mike Cowell - not many to choose from in all honesty but Cowler signalled his intentions in the match from the first whistle with a crunching challenge and carried on from there.

Lineup: Babb, Alcock, Ovey, Found, Cowell, Barrow, Daniel, Joslin, Monsell, Shannon, Collins; Subs: Bishop, Maynard, Marsh, Bayliss, Ley

Barnstaple AAC 2 Boca Seniors 3

It was billed as 'The Battle of Barum'. Possibly the most eagerly anticipated Barnstaple derby in living memory. Maybe in the history of the world. Notwithstanding the usual rivalry, there were the side issues of the switch in goalkeepers and of a new, younger, hungrier AAC team ready to take honours this season.

Facing a team much touted to be the closest challengers to their crown this season Boca lined up at pretty much full strength. And with a sizeable crowd watching in the continued indian summer sunshine it was all set up for a monumental clash.

Now, anyone who has watched a Boca v Ammies tie over the years will testify to the fact that they arent the prettiest affairs. It's usually a case of Boca's passing, counter attacking style meeting the determined, tough tackling, pressing game of their opponents. And with all due respect, today's game pretty much followed that same formula.

What was not in the Ammies script however was Boca taking a two goal lead. After latching onto a long pass Richie Joslin punished some hesitant goalkeeping and finished nicely to take his goal tally to seven for the season.

Soon after it was two. One thing to point out to anyone wishing to brag about how many points they're going to take off you next Saturday: a bit of banter and confidence is perfectly acceptable and encouraged. However, if you are going to do that don't be giving Richard Shannon gilt-edged opportunities from twenty yards otherwise he'll punish you. Finding the ball at his feet following an inadvertedly flicked on AAC header he finished in the usual manner.

A great start for the visitors. From then on the game evened out and both teams enjoyed similar amounts of possession with Boca arguably shading the better of the goalscoring opportunities. A two goal half-time lead would have been exactly what Darren Todd was looking for but Boca pushed the self-destruct button in the 45th minute. After giving away a free kick at the twenty five yard mark the resulting strike cannoned off the corner of post and bar and landed at the feet of an AAC player who sweetly stroked it home to give the home side a lifeline and confidence going into the break.

The second half began with a buoyed Ammies side looking to restore parity. And they did on the hour mark. The remainder of the game saw both teams locked in a stalemate but chances came at either end with both 'keepers called into action. Darren Babb put in a confident performance back at the ground where he started the season. He was unlucky not to be awarded the man-of-the-match award. That was reserved for the hero of the hour, the match winner. But not from the usual list of Barrows, Shannons and Deakins. It was centre half Shaun Ley. After a corner broke down with five minutes remaining 'Leyer' sweetly drove the ball through a crowded penalty area to send the visitors home happy and their hosts back to the drawing board.

Possibly a little harsh on AAC but yet another example of Boca's determination, winning mentality and togetherness.

Man-of-the-match: Shaun Ley - the most solid of the Boca back four but the winning goal gave him the award just ahead of the impressive Babb.

Lineup: Babb, Alcock, Ley, Ovey, Monsell, Bishop, Daniel, Barrow, Joslin, Marsh, Shannon; Subs: Cowell, Bayliss, Munden, Mardon, Found

Exmouth Amateurs 0 Boca Seniors 1

After the exploits of 'that' night in April it was down to the difficult business of defending the trophy Boca so famously won all those weeks ago. Having been given a bye into the second round it was Exmouth Amateurs who stood in the way attempting to be the first team to beat the Devon Champions this season.

On a very nice pitch Boca's first half display matched the glorious early Autumn sunshine. It was very much a team effort with every one of the outfield getting involved in some slick passing. The trio of Richard Shannon, Richie Joslin and Jake Crush combined well on several occasions to open up the right side of the Exmouth back line. Giles Daniel and Mark Barrow too enjoyed some decent possession whilst also mixing it up in the middle of the park.

After close calls through Shannon and Tom Marsh it took a moment of Barrow brilliance to unlock the Exmouth door. After another flowing move, with a beautifully reversed threaded pass Barrow found Marsh who stretched to slot underneath the oncoming 'keeper.

It could have been more at half time but Boca were more than pleased with the performance, without question their best for some time.

Bar a minor touchline disturbance the second half passed without much incident and was a much scrappier affair. Tom Marsh saw a goal bound volley puched onto the bar and Darren Babb made a great low save late on but Boca saw out the 90 minutes to go into the third round.

Next up: Ammies of a different kind. The local derby, one which is being talked up a great deal. Ammies best team for a long time and their best chance of winning the title in their history? All will be revealed on Saturday...

Man-of-the-match: Liam Monsell - a great team effort but Liam's display of tough tackling, drive and skill gave him the award.

Lineup: Babb, Monsell, Ley, Ovey, Joslin, Bishop, Barrow, Daniel, Crush, Shannon, Marsh; Subs: Cowell, Collins, Munden, Mardon

Boca Seniors 13 Hartland 0

After the disappointment and local over reaction to last week's result there was some soul searching to be done prior to the game versus Hartland. Although Boca remain undefeated there has been something missing in the performances. One of those things is scoring goals. Today they went goal crazy albeit against a weak Hartland team propping up the league table. But you have to beat what's in front of you. And beat they did.

Hat tricks from Tom Marsh, Mark Barrow and Taro Bishop were joined by singles from Richie Joslin, Chris Collins, Kurt Bayliss and a rare Brad Munden penalty.

Despite the lack of threat from the visitors Boca played some neat football on a zippy pitch and often tore the Hartland defence to shreds. In fairness it could have been more but with respect to Hartland they never gave up.

So, not a real test with two big matches coming up but Boca will take confidence that they do actually know where the goal is.

Man-of-the-match: Giles Daniel - one of the few players not to get on the scoresheet, but Sid produced a controlled display in the middle of the park.

Lineup: Babb, Cowell, Ovey, Found, Joslin, Bishop, Barrow, Daniel, Bayliss, Marsh, Shannon; Subs: Monsell, Munden, Collins, Cole

Georgeham & Croyde 1 Boca Seniors 1

Well, in all honesty it's been coming for a few weeks. The wake up call some would say. Performances have been patchy since the season started but the quality has been there to get the champions over the line. Unfortunately for the champions of Devon this week their luck ran out. Despite dominating for the vast majority of the match, a combination of wasteful finishing, resolute defending and good goalkeeping restricted them to a solitary point in a fixture that, with respect to their opponents they will have expected all three.

It was their plucky hosts who stole the lead, punishing some poor defending. They could have taken the lead earlier had it not been for an outstanding reflex save from stand-in 'keeper Lee Cole.

Shaun Ley was unlucky to head against the bar from Mark Barrow's corner midway through the first half but that was really as close as Boca got in a poor first half display.

The second half was a much improved display. Twenty minutes in, when it looked as though it really might not be Boca's day, parity was restored. From Taro Bishop's excellent long pass, the ball found it's way to Kurt Bayliss who finished at the second attempt, capping another good display.

Good chances came and went, still the Georgeham back line held firm. And with minutes remaining, after doing all the hard work Tom Marsh practically placed the ball in the hands of the Hammers 'keeper with the goal at his mercy, you knew the game was destined for a draw.

Historically, wake up calls for Boca usually come at this stage in the season with big early defeats against Braunton (in 2007) and Torridgeside (in 2008) still fresh in the memory. They will hope that this season takes the same shape as those seaesons. And where last week all the talk was about best start ever, this week it will all be about the contenders being back in contention. Boca know that they'll have to greatly improve with some pivotal matches coming up in the very near future.

Man-of-the-match: tbc

Lineup: Cole, Ley, Alcock, Ovey, Bayliss, Mardon, Cowell, Daniel, Barrow, Bishop, Marsh; Subs: Collins, Found

Boca Seniors 2 Braunton 1

Matches versus historical rivals Braunton are always good value and todays was no exception. Sometimes you don't always get what you deserve in this game and as the ball canoned off the Braunton crossbar on the 70 minute mark you could forgive Darren Todd for thinking that maybe today was going to be one of those days.

But you don't win four league titles in a row without learning the art of resilience. Boca's lineup may have changed somewhat over the Summer but that togetherness and winning mentality seems as strong as ever no matter the personnel.

Going one nil down was a common ocurrence last season and today's game followed that pattern. After some early clashes in midfield Braunton went one up, a nice finish looping over a hesitant Jimmy Thorne in goal. Despite the deficit Boca came back into the match but wasted decent chances, either flashing wide or putting the ball straight into the welcoming arms of former Boca 'keeper Johnny Vaughn.

Another ex-Boca player, Mark Sanders squandered an excellent chance minutes before the interval. Finding himself one on one with Thorne he tamely shot into the Boca 'keepers hands. Time would tell if Sanders and Braunton would rue that miss.

At half time the talk was that the game was there for the taking. Sharpen up the finishing up front but keep it tight at the back, no mistakes. The gameplan worked brilliantly. Mid way into an end to end second half Kurt Bayliss dropped his shoulder, drove into the box and drove home the equaliser.

In fairness although the game could have gone either way it was Boca who carved out the better chances. In quick succession they struck the upright (Ross Maynard) and the bar (Tom Marsh). It was going to take something special to win this one. And when it came, it was, albeit tinged with a little luck. Finding space to turn inside the penalty area Jake Crush managed to claim a famous winner with a powerful finish.

The last five minutes were a flurry of chances but a resolute back line including the returning Luke Alcock stood resolute til the end.

Man-of-the-match: Shaun Ley - always the man for the big occasions, Leyer produced his best again. Pushed hard by his fellow defenders Luke Alcock and Lewis Ovey and spare a mention for the departing Jimmy Thorne who atoned for his earlier error with a great 2nd half performance.

Lineup: Thorne, Alcock, Ley, Ovey, Barrow, Maynard, Cowell, Bishop, Bayliss, Marsh, Crush; Subs: Mardon, Found, Monsell

Boca Seniors 3 Bideford Town Reserves 2

The big games have certainly come thick and fast at the start of this season with probably the most difficult opening five games scheduled in recent memory. Get through them unscathed and it should set the season up nicely. Next up, new Premier side Bideford Town Reserves, an unknown quantity to Boca.

It was obvious from the first whistle that this was going to be tough game with a pacey front two causing a makeshift back line, including last year's Westward Ho! Cup Final 'keeper Shaun Ley once again in goal.

Once again Boca took the lead, Giles Daniel bundling in Mark Barrow's free-kick which initially struck the bar.

More to follow...

Man-of-the-match: Daniel Found - there may be a lot of rubbish being written about him on the forum but on the pitch he's settled in very well.

Lineup: Ley, Found, Ovey, Bayliss, Joslin, Barrow, Daniel, Maynard, Bishop, Marsh, Shannon; Subs: Munden, Cowell, Mardon, Crush, Collins

Boca Seniors 3 Appledore 2

After Saturday's romp against Torridgeside it was right down to business against last season's runners up Appledore. It's usually one of the toughest matches of the season and this one was no exception. However, it was Boca who raced into a two goal lead thanks to a well-worked and finished opener from Mark Barrow and a great strike from Tom Marsh.

At that stage the visitors attempts on goal were being restricted but with five minutes to go until the break, several lapses in concentration allowed Appledore to reduce the deficit with a strike from the edge of the box. Disappointing for Boca who had worked hard to get the lead.

But there was no lapse in concentration for Appledore's equaliser. Rising a challenge from Taro Bishop the winger unleashed an unstoppable shot into the top corner giving stand-in 'keeper absolutely no chance.

From then on the game was a stalemate with no team really looking like they were able to claim all three points. That was until a period of pressure resulted in a corner for Boca. Mark Barrow's cross found it's way to the back post where it was prodded in by Darren Hawkings.

That seemed to take the wind out of the Fishermen's sails and despite their energy and effort they left the Tarka Centre pointless once more.

Man-of-the-match: Ross Maynard - despite a lull just after half time, Rossco gave a performance full of energy and effort.

Lineup: Cole, Ley, Hawkings, Ovey, Bayliss, Bishop, Barrow, Daniel, Maynard, Joslin, Marsh; Subs: Deakin, Found, Cowell, Munden, Collins

Boca Seniors 12 Torridgeside 3

Match report unavailable.

Man-of-the-match: Tom Marsh
