04.05.08 - Boca Seniors 4 North Molton 2

For the second consecutive season Boca Seniors have claimed three trophies. With the Premier League and Torridge Cup trophies nestling nicely behind the bar at The Wrey Arms, they added the Westward Ho! title to their honours list with a 4-2 victory against a spirited North Molton side.

Boca started the potential banana skin tie the better but squandered some decent chances, Richard Shannon hitting the crossbar on one frustrating occasion. And despite enjoying the vast majority of possession then came the sucker punch. Breaking down Boca's right Molton took the lead thanks to a well taken volley from close range. The goal seemed to inject some belief into North Molton and they began to enjoy a little more possession.

Often the man for the big occasion, Matt Deakin was switched to the right and it paid dividends almost immediately. Twisting and turning through the penalty area and beating three men we superbly curled the ball into the top left hand corner of the net. It was a particularly great finish as the ball was under his feet when he struck. One-all at half time.

03.05.08 - Boca Seniors 3 Combe Martin 1

Despite losing key defender Darren Todd at the eleventh hour Boca signed off this year's successful league campaign with victory at the Tarka Centre thanks to goals from Chris Collins and firsts of the season from Shaun Ley and Darren Babb(?).

Resting key players for tomorrow's Westward Ho! cup final against North Molton the champions took the lead thanks to Chris Collins' cool finish after a spot of defensive pinball.

The first half was equal in terms of chances and possession and Boca were kept in the lead thanks to some superb goalkeeping from Boca number one Darren Babb, recapturing the form which brought him to the club.

Boca's one goal lead was extended by Shaun Ley bursting through the middle, springing the offside trap and slotting home with a finish of which any striker would be proud. He was then immediately substituted.

Two became three in the second half from the most unlikely of sources. Simon Ovey's mazy run in the penalty area was unfairly halted. Up stepped Darren Babb, keen to banish the memory of his missed penalty from two seasons ago at Putford. Like Putford, the keeper saved Babb's weak effort but this time the ball rebounded out and he made no mistake at the second opportunity.

It was Babb's day but all eyes now turn towards tomorrow's final game of the season against North Molton.

Man-of-the-match: Darren Babb - a string of superb saves, especially in the first half and amazingly, a goal.

01.05.08 - Boca Seniors 1 Braunton 0

Cup finals are usually tight, cagey affairs but anyone who paid the £3 admission fee last night was treated to a pulsating match which had everything: poor refereeing, a sending off, disallowed goals, both teams hitting the woodwork at least once, end to end stuff. And once the smoke cleared it was the North Devon Premier League Champions who came out on top to claim the Torridge Cup for the first time in the club's history.

With centre backs Daniel Mackie and Brad Munden both out injured Boca Manager Darren Todd was forced into a tactical re-think, reverting to a 4-4-2 formation.

The game started off like most finals, with both teams seeing what the other had to offer. It was Boca who did most of the early pressing with Matt Deakin enjoying some good space on the right. After fifteen minutes the game burst into life and with it the first controversy of the evening. Deakin's superb volley crashed off the bar and looped into the air. Seeing the opportunity to score Owen Pickard leapt high and early above the Braunton 'keeper and into the net. As the celebrations started he was harshly adjudged to have impeded the 'keeper and the goal was disallowed.

If Boca thought they were hard done by at that stage, nothing could prepare them for the shock minutes later. A Boca attack was cleared down field, the ball skidded off of the wet surface. Pausing for a split second Lewis Ovey was beaten to the ball and whilst trying to regain ground he brought the Braunton striker down for a clear free-kick, usually punished by a yellow card. Despite having defensive partner Shaun Ley covering behind he was deemed to be the last man and was very harshly shown the red card.

Half an hour gone and down to ten men Boca weathered the storm until half-time. Despite the numbers disadvantage the half-time team talk was all about forgetting the errors of the first half. "Believe" was the rallying cry from Darren Babb and Boca came storming out of the blocks.

The midfield partnership of Owen Pickard and Mark Barrow continuously broke up the play and fed the ball out wide to Deakin and Jake Crush who were enjoying a good deal of effective possession. And through that possession came the game's best opportunity. The slippery Deakin drove into the box and drilled the ball across the six yard area to the waiting Richard Shannon who somehow hit the bar from no more than three yards out. It was beginning to look like one of those days.

That was until man-of-the-match Deakin pounced on seventy minutes. After hitting the bar again he scrambled the ball home to put the 10 men into a deserved lead. The expected Braunton onslaught never really materialised thanks to a well organised and determined defensive Boca performance.

Switching to three at the back, the unlikely defensive trio of Shaun Ley, Richie Joslin and Liam Monsell kept things super tight not giving the Braunton front line a sniff. When a chance did arrive, Darren Babb made a series of great saves. And it was written in the stars for Boca when Braunton struck a post when it was probably easier to score.

In the end Boca hung on for the most famous of victories for Mark Barrow to raise his second trophy of the season.

Man-of-the-match: Matt Deakin - scored the winner and gave the Braunton left back problems all game. Once agin proving to be the man for the big occasion. Pushed hard for the award by Owen Pickard.

26.04.08 - Barnstaple AAC 1 Boca Seniors 3

Maybe it was the presentation of the premier league trophy which made Ammies all the more determined to beat the champions, maybe not, but they were certainly determined to get one over on their Barnstaple neighbours. Ultimately all of their tough challenges were in vain as Boca ran out 3-1 winners.

AAC fortuitously took the lead after 15 minutes following a massively deflected effort giving Darren Babb no chance in the Boca goal. It was a typically physical derby affair with not a great deal of football on display but on the half hour mark that all changed with a moment of Matt Deakin genius. A la Paul Scholes versus Bradford some seasons ago he converted Mark Barrow's corner with a sweetly taken volley right into the top left corner. Surely the best goal seen at Mill Road for a long while.

Bumps and bruises were fixed at half time and Boca, with one eye on this Thursday's Torridge Cup Final against Braunton came out for the second half in relaxed mood. Most of the second half passed without incident until fifteen minutes from time when Boca took the lead, Matt Deakin's dangerous corner headed into his own net by a helpless AAC defender. The game was put beyond the reach of Ammies minutes later when Richie Joslin slotted home after springing the offside trap.

Man-of-the-match: Shaun Ley - not for the first time this season Boca's best and worst dressed player was the best player on the field.

22.04.08 - Boca Seniors 1 Shamwickshire 2

With the league title wrapped up on Saturday Boca were able rest a few key players with two cup finals coming up next week. Just eleven men were available to Darren Todd including Liam Monsell who has suffered with a knee injury for most of the season.

Shammie themselves were a shadow of the team who faced Boca four weeks ago. The game was conducted in good spirit and it was the visitors who took fortuitously took the lead after twenty five minutes, Shaun Ley's clearance rebounding off the Shammie striker and into the net. It was typical end of season fare but Shammie arguably shaded the first half having the best of the chances.

The second half resembled the first and the Bideford side extended their lead with twenty minutes to play, nodding home from a corner.

Boca drew one back from Mark Barrow through another stunning free-kick to add to his collection. With the 'keeper still lining up the wall he superbly curled the ball into the top right corner. That was Barrow's sixth goal in four games and he goes into the forthcoming cup finals in great form.

Boca welcome back most of those absent from the Shammie game for this Saturday's match versus local rivals Barnstaple AAC looking to repeat the 7-3 victory back in September and gain some revenge for the Brayford Cup defeat in February.

Man-of-the-match: Shaun Ley - in a match meaningless in terms of the league title, "Leyer" was as determined and strong as if it were a cup final. Another great preformance alongside Lewis Ovey.

19.04.08 - Georgeham 3 Boca Seniors 5

Ladies and gentlemen, your North Devon League Premier Division champions for 2007/08 are Boca Seniors FC!!

Today they clinched their third consecutive title away at Georgeham but with fifteen minutes to go, Manager Darren Todd was beginning to look towards next Tuesday's game versus Shamwickshire to secure the one point required. At that stage they found themselves 3-2 down and looked nothing like potential champions of North Devon. But the introduction of Richie Joslin and rearrangement of the midfield paid dividends for the visitors. February signing Kurt Bayliss starting his first game for Boca in four years drew the teams level at three apiece with a superbly struck first time effort giving the 'keeper no chance.

That equaliser seemed to galvanise Boca and they soon retook the lead. Bayliss' deep cross was met at the far post by substitute Richie Joslin who somehow squeezed the ball in from the tightest of angles. With minutes remaining Bayliss put the result beyond doubt tapping in at the far post after good work from Matt Deakin.

The previous 75 minutes were not easy viewing for the Boca bench. They gave the lead away in silly style after Mark Barrow's penalty had put them ahead. Owen Pickard's shinned effort (sorry Owen) gave Boca the lead going into half-time. That goal saved the players from a deserved half-time roasting from Manager Darren Todd.

The second half started very much like the first, Boca were all over the place in every department. They were punished for their display by two quick Hammer goals and from looking comfortable one minute Boca were seriously beginning to wonder if this was going to be their day.

But thanks to the tactical switch, Owen Pickard's composure and Bayliss' goals Boca claimed the win and in the process the championship once more.

Man-of-the-match: Kurt Bayliss - pushed close by Owen Pickard but fellow February signing Bayliss shades it thanks to a decent display and two crucial strikes.

17.04.08 - Holsworthy 1 Boca Seniors 4

Being Boca Seniors official PR you'll forgive some slight bias from time to time but tonight's Torridge Cup semi-final performance was one of the best that this writer has seen in all his years at the club.

Given the apparently more difficult of the two semi-finals against South West Peninsula Premier Division side Holsworthy (two leagues above), Boca were seeking to reach the final of the competition for the second consecutive year and secure the only trophy which eluded them in last year's treble winning season.

Once again as in recent matches, playing on a grassy but bobbly surface in a swirling wind the first half was a largely scrappy affair with Holsworthy arguably shading it possession-wise. Without really troubling the Boca goal, the black and whites were restricted to launching long balls from the back which were duly soaked up by Lewis Ovey, Shaun Ley and Daniel Mackie. When they eventually stretched the Boca back three they were awarded a controversial penalty, the crowd seemingly divided on whether it was or not. Regardless, it was put away to give Holsworthy the lead which neither side really deserved. With Boca unable to convert the odd half-chance, they took that lead into the break.

After some soul searching Boca came out for the second half revitalised and soon restored parity. Mark Barrow's cross was headed back across goal by Richard Shannon giving Giles Daniel a simple chance to nod home from five yards. What followed was nothing short of a footballing avalanche. And Holsworthy had no answer.

After a fairly ineffectual first half Shannon returned the earlier favour crossing this time to Barrow who let the ball bounce once and launched a stunning unstoppable volley into the stancheon.

Minutes later it was 3-1 Boca. Shaun Ley's long pass found Shannon who split the defence in two. Watching the ball fall over his head he drilled home low underneath the 'keeper. Holsworthy's seemingly comfortable first half defence was in tatters.

More good Boca chances came and went, Holsworthy's 'keeper bravely saving on one occasion from Daniel. But he could do nothing about Barrow's second. Shannon's excellent through ball put then strike partner Barrow through. From thirty yards out, looking up and seeing the 'keeper off his line he beautifully chipped it over his head to seal a famous win. Cue celebrations from the North Devon League side and much dusting off of suits for two cup finals in four days.

It was largely a team effort but standout performances came from strike partnership Giles Daniel and Richard Shannon, outclassing and overpowering the Holsworthy defence. Mark Barrow has found his form at the right time of the season and Shaun Ley and Lewis Ovey continued their fantastic composed displays since the turn of the year.

Man-of-the-match: Mark Barrow - many performances to choose from on the night but by virtue of those two stunning goals he sneaks it from any one of Ovey, Ley, Shannon or Daniel. Someone asked on the forum if he still 'had it'. If that person was there tonight they would have had their answer. In style. Will they never learn?

13.04.08 - Morwenstow 2 Boca Seniors 5

Boca's first appearance in a cup final has been booked with today's Westward Ho! Cup semi-final victory at Morwenstow.

It was the home side who took the lead on five minutes with a quick breakaway after a mis-taken Boca short corner but parity was soon restored thanks to Mark Barrow's effort carried over the line by the Green's 'keeper. Morwenstow's defence were finding it extremely difficult to deal with the strength of striker Giles Daniel and it was he who gave Boca the lead on the half hour mark, firing home low into the net.

Playing with the wind and the slope Morwenstow were generously awarded a free-kick on the edge of the penalty area which was despatched low beyond the reach of Darren Babb to make the scores even going into the break.

The visitors arguably shaded the play in the first half but the second was definitely all Boca. With the back four keeping things tight and central midfielders Mark Barrow and Mike Cowell winning and enjoying a good deal of possession Boca re-took the lead and never looked back, Barrow's second of the match slotted home with his left foot making the scores 3-2.

Richard Shannon put the result beyond doubt with fifteen minutes to play with a cool finish and substitute Kurt Bayliss added a fifth with an equally well taken strike for his second in two appearances to ensure that Boca's squad will need to dust off their cup final suits at least once this season.

Man-of-the-match: Lewis Ovey - yet another rock solid display - alongside fellow defender Shaun Ley, probably Boca's most consistent player in the last six months, would have been made MOM more, if it weren't for the attacking exploits of Shannon, Deakin, Daniel etc.

12.04.08 - Boca Seniors 6 Georgeham 1

The Fat Lady isn't singing just yet, but she's certainly warming up her vocal chords after today's results. A comprehensive win against a Georgeham side missing it's entire first team squad except their goalkeeper coupled with Shamwickshire's home defeat to Putford means that all Boca need is one point from their four remaining games to secure their third straight Premier League title.

Richard Shannon gave the visitors a lesson in finishing with a hat-trick, his fourth of the season bringing his overall total to 34. Singles came from the returning Giles Daniel, Matt Deakin and Chris Collins against his former team.

The performance in the second half was much improved from the first half display and Boca know they'll have to up their game considerably if they want to get the point they need in next week's return at Georgeham against a fully restored side.

Man-of-the-match: Richard Shannon - not many fantastic Boca performances, but 'the Canon' gets the MOM by virtue of his fourth hat-trick of the season.

06.04.08 - Boca Seniors 6 Grosvenor/Lovacott 0

After yesterday's defeat to Appledore it was critical for Boca to get back to winning ways as soon as possible. With first choice strike partnership Richard Shannon and Giles Daniel unavailable Darren Todd called on the services of Jake 'Conger' Crush and he delivered with three goals to make the loss to the fishermen a distant memory.

It wasn't a vintage display from the home side, once again the bobbly pitch and blustery wind made it difficult for both sides, but they were always in control of the game and two up at half time thanks to Crush and Chris Collins.

Reminding themselves of the previous days events at half-time Boca came out for the second half eager to get the third goal and kill off Grosvenor's hopes, and it came from Crush, his second. Three more unanswered Boca goals from debutant Kurt Bayliss, Matt Deakin (from thirty yards) and Crush from the penalty spot (for his hat-trick) sealed the points and restored normality in a up and down weekend for the league leaders.

Next weekend could also prove pivotal with big games; in the league on Saturday against Georgeham and Sunday, the Westward Ho! Cup semi-final against old adverseries Morewenstow.

Man-of-the-match: Shaun Ley - composed performance from the ex-Lovacott man.

05.04.08 - Boca Seniors 2 Appledore 4

Seven months, one week and three days. The unbeaten league run is over and a stark reminder for Boca that despite all the talk around North Devon, this title race is far from being decided just yet. But at half-time Boca were fully in control of the game, one-nil up thanks to a lovely chip from Richard Shannon, and against the wind.

But Appledore's young side came out for the second half far more determined than the hosts and equalised 30 seconds in. The goal seemed to galvanise Appledore and as Boca got their heads around the equaliser the sucker punch came. Finding themselves stretched at the back Boca conceded a clear cut penalty which was despatched to Darren Babb's right hand side.

The league leaders then woke up (at least for a while) and drew level from Owen Pickard, superbly lashing home low into the net. But that was as good as it got for Boca.

Appledore were awarded a second, arguably generous penalty, well despatched once again to make the score 2-3. At that stage Boca were finding it very difficult to find any kind of rhythm and with twenty minutes to play the killer goal arrived. Finding themselves stretched at the back Appledore's striker punished the Boca back three with a clinical low strike.

Despite being two down Boca failed to really penetrate Appledore's well organised back line and the visitors saw the game out for a famous and well deserved victory.

Boca know they have tomorrow's match versus Grosvenor to try to put things right and maintain a decent lead going into the last five very tough games against Georgeham (twice), the local derby against Barnstaple AAC, second placed Combe Martin and nearest rivals Shamwickshire. This title race is far from over...

Man-of-the-match: Owen Pickard - on a bobbly pitch in windy conditions Owen showed his undoubted class and bagged a goal too. On his Boca debut.

29.03.08 - Grosvenor/Lovacott 1 Boca Seniors 4

After last week's display it was bound to happen. It wasn't the prettiest of performances against their local rivals but three points are three points at this stage of the season.

Missing three players who started last week's match Boca looked disjointed with a makeshift central midfield. The opening goal wasn't exactly vintage Boca. Richard Shannon latched onto Lee Capner's long ball and drilled underneath the 'keeper for his 30th of the season. Shannon was denied a second soon after when his shot was brilliantly tipped over by Grosvenor's new stopper Wayne Philips. Minutes later it was one apiece, a converted penalty reward for the home side's endeavours.

After stern words in the dressing room and a reshuffle Boca took more of a control of the match with Matt Deakin back in his preferred central midfield berth.

And it was Deakin who was the architect of Boca's second, cleverly finding Richie Joslin from a short free-kick and Jossie buried it into the far corner.

Boca were awarded a penalty of their own with fifteen minutes to play which was despatched by man-of-the-match Deakin.

The nail in Grosevor's coffin was sealed by Lee Capner playing against the team which he started the season. Finding himself thirty yards out on the right of the pitch, he looked up, saw the 'keeper off his line and delicately...sorry, I can't lie it was a cross, with his right foot and looped over the top of the 'keeper and into the net. Nevertheless, he enjoyed the goal and celebrated in style, his first for the club.

Boca will be back to full strength for next Sunday's return fixture and will look to extend the unbeaten league run.

Man-of-the-match: Matt Deakin - controlled the game when put back in his preferred central midfield position.

22.03.08 - Shamwickshire 1 Boca Seniors 5

Boca Seniors took a giant leap towards securing a third straight Premier Division title thanks in part to a hat-trick from Richard Shannon. The North Devon league's best player saves his best for the big games and he got the ball rolling after fifteen minutes, finding himself in space, sprinting clear and superbly drilling low into the net. That was the first real chance for both teams in an early spell of shared possesion.

Matt Deakin was beginning to enjoy some excellent possession down the right and it took some rough house tactics to stop him on two occasions. But no tactics could stop him on the 25 minute mark, from Shannon's corner, Deakin ghosted in at the front post heading home to extend the lead.

Shammie responded, throwing their taller players up for every long throw and set piece in an attempt to at least grab some hope going into the second half. But Boca's defence held firm, the back three of Shaun Ley, Lewis Ovey and Brad Munden playing their part alongside Darren Babb also saving his best for the big games with a commanding performance and some good stops.

The talk at half time was of the next goal; Boca get it and it should be game over, Shammie get it and it's game on. But as most onlookers were getting back into position after a pint at the Pollyfield the visitors were offered a slice of luck thanks to an own goal.

That should have been game over but Boca took their foot off the pedal and presented the home side with an easy chance to reduce the lead after a defensive mix-up. Shammie were galvanised by the goal without creating any clear cut chances. That was until they hit the post following a scramble in the area. How did Boca respond? By knocking the ball down the other end to Shannon to make it 4-1. Definitely game over now. It was 5-1 minutes later with man-of-the match Shannon rifling into the roof of the net. Shans later dedicated his hat-trick as a belated birthday present for his brother Steve in Melbourne!

One downside for Boca was losing Giles Daniel to a nasty foot injury in a challenge which should have been punished further. But it didn't sour the day and Boca now move seven points clear with a game in hand over Shammie. But with a very difficult run-in to come, Darren Todd's men know that there's still much to do to claim that third title.

Man-of-the-match: Richard Shannon - his day job is a courier, and he delivered today for Boca. Big time.

09.03.08 - Braunton 1 Boca Seniors 3

Boca's defence of the Westward Ho! Cup has succesfully begun with a 3-1 win against last years beaten finalists Braunton. The visitors were fully deserving of the victory and in all honesty the scoreline could and should have been greater with Boca's defence limiting the hosts to nothing more than half chances and their attack carving open Braunton's back three on several occasions, especially in the second half.

After Richard Shannon's goal bound header was cleared off of the line it was the home side who took the lead. Despite having a few decent chances it took Boca until five minutes from half time in which to draw level and who else but 'Mr 80/20' Matt Deakin to get the all important equaliser, superbly curling into the far right hand corner.

A minute later it was 2-1. Giles Daniel powered his way through the Braunton defence and drilled low across the oncoming 'keeper into the far corner (sorry Cowler, it was already in!).

Going against the wind Boca came back out for the second half expecting a Braunton onslaught, but it never came. In fact it was the visitors who turned the screw with Mark Barrow beginning to dictate much of Boca's good play. On the hour mark Giles Daniel grabbed his second and Boca's third, once again showing his pace and power and finishing with style. that seemed to kill Braunton off and Boca were guilty of missing three or four gilt-edged chances to extend the lead. But they'll settle for 3-1 and going into the hat for the next round.

Man-of-the-match: Mark Barrow - best performance of the season over 90 minutes. Vintage MB.

05.03.08 - Barnstaple Town 0 Boca Seniors 2

Last season the Torridge Cup was the only local trophy Boca didn't win. Only an extra time defeat to Morwenstow prevented them from completing an unprecedented quadriple. The road to put last years disappointment behind them began at Mill Road against a Barnstaple Town side featuring a mix of youth and experience.

Town set the early tempo and were obviously out to let the North Devon champions know they were in for a game with some sharp pressing and tough tackling.

As other teams have found over the past few seasons once Boca get their foot on the ball they will cause you problems and the combination of Richard Shannon, Mark Barrow and Giles Daniel carved out two decent chances.

It was the Red's over exhuberant tackling which gave away a free-kick ten minutes from the break. The visitors punished that aggresiveness when Mark Barrow's pin-point delivery was met by an unmarked Mike Cowell, arriving late.

The second half was a scrappier affair and Town failed to cause Boca's back three any major problems. Outstanding performances from Daniel Mackie, Lewis Ovey and for second game running Shaun Ley kept the Town attack at bay.

Fifteen minutes from the end the home side were reduced to ten men. Richie Joslin's crude foul was rewarded with a punch to the chin right in front of the visiting dugout, spotted by the referee. A difficult job became even harder. It became mission impossible five minutes later when substitute Jake Crush made the scores 2-0 with a looping effort, his first for Boca this season.

Man-of-the-match: Lewis Ovey - you couldn't put a cigarette paper between the back three's performances but Ovey continues with his best spell of form in a Boca shirt. Controlled and calm, the Rock of Boca.

23.02.08 - Morwenstow 2 Boca Seniors 4

They may be a shadow of the side which won the North Devon League title a few years ago, but Morwenstow are beginning to rebuild a squad capable of providing a tough challenge to visiting teams, and that's exactly what Boca got on Saturday.

The green's young, energetic side pressed the visitors from the start until Boca could get their foot on the ball and start to play. The trio of Richard Shannon, Matt Deakin and Mark Barrow enjoyed some neat first time passing, shifting the ball from wing to wing on several occasions. And it was Boca who took the lead on twenty minutes thanks to Giles Daniel, playing in his preferred striking role.

But Morwenstow are made of stern stuff these days and were rewarded for their endeavours with the equaliser five minutes later. That was after hitting the crossbar with a fantastic strike leaving 'keeper Darren Babb with no chance.

Like a wounded animal though, Boca reacted positively to the equaliser and Daniel restored the visitor's lead.

Into the second half and it was the home side who began the sharper and drew the scores level once more from the penalty spot.

But from then it was all Boca who's central midfield of Chris Collins, Mike Cowell and Mark Barrow began to dictate the play. Collin's speculative low shot from twenty five yards somehow crept underneath the body of the Morwenstow 'keeper to make the scores 3-2 and he extended the lead to two thanks to a hooked volley in off the far post. That all but killed off the Green's challenge but they refused to give in til the end to their credit.

Noteworthy Boca performances came from the hard working strike partnership of Shannon and Daniel and despite conceding two goals the back three of Lewis Ovey, Daniel Mackie and Shaun Ley.

Man-of-the-match: Shaun Ley - when he's in the mood he's one of the best defenders in North Devon. His best performance of the season so far-by far.

16.02.08 - Hartland 0 Boca Seniors 3

It's usually a tricky enough tie to go to Hartland and come away with three points playing against a home side determined not to concede a goal but when you have to contend with a terrible pitch too it makes the task all the more harder.

But contend Boca did, amongst the long grass and giant mole hills (even though it was rolled twice on Friday which we appreciate), trying on every occasion to play their normal brand of attacking, passing football. And if it wasn't for the the bobbly ground the visitors may have found themselves a few goals in front after enjoying the lions share of the first half, with Matt Deakin and Richard Shannon particularly frustrated when having decent shooting opportunities. At half-time the scores were level and left Boca Manager Darren Todd wondering if it was going to be one of those days.

But he needn't have worried as Boca came out of the blocks after the break with Tarrant Wotton enjoying some good possession down the right. And on the hour mark not even the pitch could stop a Mark Barrow moment of class. Picking up Mike Cowell's intelligent lay-off, he looked up and from twenty yards curled the ball into the top corner of the net.

Minutes later it was two-nil and it wouldn't be a Saturday if Richard Shannon didn't bag one, drilling in low after good work from Deakin.

Deakin was the architect for the third curling in a great ball for Sid Daniel to glance home with his head.

Man-of-the-match: Chris Collins - undoubetdly the best player on the pitch. Tireless work rate, won every header and tackle.

09.02.08 - Boca Seniors 3 Bradworthy 1

After the local newspaper headlines this week all eyes were on the champions to see how they'd react to last week's cup defeat. It was the talk of the town but the doubters needn't worry as Boca put in a very professional performance against a team who narrowly lost to nearest league title challengers Shamwickshire last week.

The game was dominated from start to finish with the home side keeping the ball well. That possession paid off after half an hour when after Mike Cowell's lay-off was blasted home by Lewis Ovey for his first of the season. He's been promising goals in training and that practice seems to have paid off.

After the break the game continued in the same vain and Boca extended their lead after Matt Deakin's driven cross/shot was met in the six yard box by Mike Cowell arriving right on cue.

Richard Shannon added his customary goal after dribbling the ball around three players and slotting home to put the game beyond doubt.

Boca conceded a scrappy late goal but the result was never really in doubt from the first minute.

Man-of-the-match: Mike Cowell - tremendous pressure in midfield and some good passing with a goal. His best performance in a Boca shirt.

02.02.08 - Barnstaple AAC 2 Boca Seniors 1

There'll be no league and cup double from Boca this year. A first defeat since September 8th at the hands of their Barnstaple rivals sent the cup holders crashing out of the competition at the quarter final stage and in all honesty, Boca got all they deserved.

On a heavy pitch suiting the home side's style, Boca laboured and without AAC having many clear cut chances it was Boca's defence who were the busier. In the first half the visitors lacked a real cutting edge and were reduced to one or two half chances. Ammies huffed and puffed and were finally rewarded with the lead ten minutes before the break with a shot trickling past a fully outstretched Darren Babb.

The second half was a different tale in terms of possession and Boca's key players were beginning to get involved with Sid Daniel and Matt Deakin enjoying some good work down the Ammies left. The equalizer came on the hour mark and typified Boca's performance with Richard Shannon bundling home from six yards after a spill from the 'keeper. At that stage it looked like going into extra time but Ammies had other ideas. The previously watertight Boca defence was split open leaving the Ammies striker unmarked in the middle. His first shot was brilliantly saved by Babb at close range but he made no mistake from the rebound. And coming three minutes from time that was it.

Just the wake up call Boca need to remind them this season is far from over...

Man-of-the-match: Lewis Ovey - didn't deserve to be on the losing team. Back to his best, probably been Boca's most consistent player for the last few games.

27.01.08 - Kilkhampton 0 Boca Seniors 8

It's been a good weekend for Boca. Two games, two wins, through to the next round of the Brayford Cup and with today's comprehensive win against Kilkhampton, five points clear in the race for the league title.

And with those wins came yet more goals, eight today in total thanks to hat-tricks from 'Mr Assister' Taz Wotton and Richard Shannon and singles from Sid Daniel and Richie Joslin.

After some early physical Kilk pressure and tackling, it was a stroll in the park on a sunny Sunday afternoon for the reigning champions and should probably have been double figures against a team currently propping up the premier league table. And the bonus for Darren Todd's men is that not are the goals flowing but the early season defensive issues are a distant memory thanks to great form from Lewis Ovey, Shaun Ley and a returning Brad Munden.

Even 'keeper Darren Babb is getting in the act making a fine penalty save mid-way into the second half.

Yes, it's good to be at Boca right now.

Man-of-the-match: Brad Munden - in a game where the strikers will grab the headlines for scoring, Munders was great from the first whistle.

26.01.08 - Boca Seniors 4 Hartland 1

It's been 35 days since the last Boca match. There's not been much action to report since then and there wasn't much action to report from today's twice postponed Brayford Cup first round match against Hartland.

On a Rock Park pitch made heavy by the endless recent rainfall, the home side played some nice intricate stuff, most of it coming through the left side combination of Richie Joslin, Lee Capner and Richard Shannon. But ten minutes in it was individual power and skill which opened the scoring when the ever industrious Giles Daniel tricked his way through the visiting defence and fired low into the far bottom corner of the net. Matt Deakin made it two with an excellently taken finish from six yards. Daniel claimed Boca's third before half-time and effectively killed the tie off for Hartland...and for those watching.

In a scrappy second half, striker Tarrant Wotton grabbed a deserved goal with a header after good work from the right. Hartland claimed a consolation minutes from the end. Notable Boca performances included a solid defensive display from centre-back partnership Shaun Ley and Lewis Ovey, a first start for Lee Capner enjoying good link-up play with Richie Joslin.

Man-of-the-match: Giles Daniel - according to reports earlier this week on the forum he was quitting. It certainly didn't look like it today-a powerful, determined and skillful performance-and a brace to boot.

22.12.07 - North Molton 2 Boca Seniors 3

The Champions are back at the top of the Premier and once again Matt Deakin was the architect of the opposition's downfall. In a devastating 20 minute spell he banged in two great finishes and forced the home side into a desperate tactical switch.

With Boca missing the suspended Richard Shannon, they welcomed back Chris Collins to the starting eleven and he responded positively with a goal of his own and a man-of-the-match work horse performance. At that point the visitors were coasting and arguably could have been more than 3-0 in the lead. But Molton never gave up and drew one back thanks to a converted penalty with 5 minutes of the first half remaining.

It was obvious from the second half display that the majority of the players on the pitch had enjoyed a little too much of the 'Factory Friday' festivities and the game turned into a much scrappier affair with most players tiring soon after the restart.

Neither team took a firm grip of the game in the second half and it was the home side who gave Boca a nervous final 15 minutes, reducing the deficit to one. But a resolute defence lead by the once again excellent Lewis Ovey held firm and Boca took the points and claimed top spot for the first time this season.

Man-of-the-match: Chris Collins - back in the side and back amongst the goalscorers. Another hardworking performance too. 'Chin up' Chrissy!

15.12.07 - Dolton Rangers 1 Boca Seniors 8

With the early season defensive worries and stuttering form a distant memory, Boca's key aims must be to stretch the unbeaten run and to increase the goal difference. Soon after kick-off, it was evident that Saturday's game gave the champions exactly that opportunity. The visitors took their league tally to 77 in an 8-1 romp against a Dolton side a shadow of their former selves from seasons gone by. And it could have been more...

Boca raced into a 6-0 half-time lead thanks to a Matt Deakin hat-trick, Sid Daniel and fantastic strikes from Mark Barrow and Richard Shannon, Barrow's a stunning volley into the bottom corner following Deakin's precise cross. Shannon's goal was pure Richard Shannon. Picking up the ball on the corner of the penalty area he ghosted past three defenders and powerfully bent the ball into the top corner.

The half-time team talk was of increasing the goal tally. But the second half was a very poor affair with Boca taking their foot off of the pedal. They extended the scoreline to 8-0 thanks to Deakin's 4th and Daniel's 2nd but scrappily conceded before the end.

Man-of-the-match: Richie Joslin - 100% commited in the tackle, linked up well with Deakin and Shannon and had a hand in a few goals

01.12.07 - Boca Seniors 4 Braunton 2

They say that vengeance should be best served cold, whatever that means. And it was certainly cold on Saturday, wet too. But despite the miserable weather Boca claimed a famous win against their biggest rivals to banish the memory of the 5-0 reverse earlier this season.

The home side started brightly with man-of-the-match Matt Deakin involved in most of their good play and it was Deakin who got the ball rolling after 15 minutes. Twisting and turning on the edge of the penalty area, his left-footed effort found it's way into the bottom corner of the Braunton net, cleverly assisted by Mike Cowell's dummy. Cue celebrations, particularly from Cowell who celebrated the birth of a baby boy Charlie on Wednesday.

Braunton drew themselves level from the penalty spot 10 minutes later and should probably have gone into the lead, but folllowing a quick counter-attack squandered a gilt-edged chance from 6 yards.

Then followed a devastating Boca spell in which the champions took and extended the lead. Richard Shannon continued his excellent goal scoring form drilling home from 20 yards. Then came the goal of the game; following a great move involving four Boca players, Matt Deakin grabbed his second, tapping in at the far post.

The second half was a much scrappier affair with the ground getting increasingly heavy. To Braunton's credit, they knew that the next goal was all important, and they grabbed it making the score 3-2. The home side absorbed Braunton's pressure thanks to great performances from centre backs Daniel Mackie and Lewis Ovey, both unlucky not to be made man-of-the-match.

Mark Barrow put the game beyond the reach of the visitors 10 minutes from time with a customary 30 yard free-kick which looped over the Braunton 'keeper. Boca then went on to enjoy the lions share of possession until referee Tony Cloak called time on proceedings.

Man-of-the-match: Matt Deakin - Once again Deaks gave a performance full of trickery and skill

24.11.07 - Boca Seniors 8 Putford 2

There's no stopping Richard Shannon right now. He took his tally for the season to 19 and walked away with the man-of-the-match pants for the fourth time in a superb display. Involved in everything good from the start his first was a delightful chip following a fumbled Putford clearance. That made the scoreline 2-1 to Boca after Mark Barrow's opener and a Putford equalizer against the run of play.

Not for the first time this season the second half was completely dominated by the home side. A second for Barrow came soon after the break and was added by goals from 'Sid' Daniel and a rarity from Brad Munden. But this was Shannon's day and 'The Mercurial One' duly completed his hat-trick and added another to complete the rout for Boca.

Boca go into their biggest game of the season so far against Braunton next week in excellent form and will look to avenge the 5-0 defeat from the reverse fixture in August, their only one of the campaign thus far.

Man-of-the-match: Richard Shannon - four goals and a lesson in how to finish.

17.11.07 - Combe Martin 3 Boca Seniors 4

Man-of-the-match Matt Deakin may deservedly receive the plaudits for his red-hot performance full of pace and trickery but it was Mark Barrow who stole the headlines with another wonder goal from his ever-growing collection. And what's more, it turned out to be the winner in a great game in front of the Combe Martin faithful.

The 2-0 scoreline at half time may give the impression of a dominant home team performance but it was Boca who had the lions share of possession and chances, failing to convert some clear cut opportunities. Combe Martin's goals came early and in quick succession firstly thanks to a shot which rebounded off the post and the back of 'keeper Darren Babb's head and secondly some generous marking from the visitors.

But when a team consists of an in-form trio of Mark Barrow, Matt Deakin and Richard Shannon you can be sure there'll be Boca goals, and there were. Minutes after the restart Barrow's whipped cross found Mike Cowell who powerfully headed home to reduce the deficit. Deakin headed the equalizer ten minutes later and put Boca into the lead for the first time following a determined run and neat finish. But the best was yet to come from Barrow; beating the Combe offiside trap with an intelligent run from inside his own half he found himself 35 yards out from the goal with just the keeper to beat. But instead of taking the ball on and rounding the 'keeper he looked up, and launched a side-footed lob over the top and into the net.

That should have been game over, but two minutes from time the home side made the score to 3-4 to set up a tense finale adding more grey hair to Boca Manager Darren Todd. But Boca held out for a famous away win to leapfrog their hosts into second place.

Man-of-the-match: Matt Deakin - fantastic performance from the 'Little Magician' full of pace and skill down both wings, and two goals to boot. Gave both full backs a torrid time all afternoon.

10.11.07 - Boca Seniors 5 Dolton Rangers 0

A brace apiece from strike partners Chris Collins and Richard Shannon and a single from Richie Joslin condemned Dolton to another defeat.

Praise from Manager Darren Todd was reserved particularly for Matt Deakin and Richard Shannon. The 'Mercurial One' is not just getting the goals (his two on Saturday taking his tally thus far to 14), but the performances are like the Shannon of old. Great news for the reigning champions.

Boca have now scored 37 goals in their last 7 games and go into a crunch period in the season in good form.

Man-of-the-match: Richard Shannon

03.11.07 - Putford 2 Boca Seniors 5

Despite the best efforts of Putford 'keeper Will Tallamy, Boca put the disappointment of last week's result against Northam well behind them with a good performance against a typically voiciferous and determined Putford side.

The visitors flew off of the blocks from the kick-off and raced into a three-nil lead thanks to excellent team goals from Mike Cowell, Richard Shannon and a 40 yard free kick from Mark Barrow.

Putford forced their way back into the game thanks to a penalty and a great strike into the top corner of the Boca net, largely against the run of play.

The second half was all Boca. Taking a grip of the game in midfield and tightening up at the back the visitors carved Putford open on several occasions, hitting the woodwork and squandering some decent chances in the process. Shannon and Taz Wotton, who are starting to form an excellent partnership up front put the game beyond Putford's reach with another goal apiece.

Man-of-the-match: 'Taz' Wotton - tireless workrate, great touches, good energy and a goal - arguably the best display from a Boca player this season.

27.10.07 - Boca Seniors 4 Northam Lions 4

Over the years Boca Manager Darren Todd has become accustomed to giving rowsing half-time team talks but even in his widest nightmares he wouldn't have though that history was about to repeat itself. With the comeback of the season still fresh in Lion's memories (a 4-3 reverse having been 3-0 up) from two weeks ago, they cam to Barnstaple to eact some kind of revenge...and they did. They went into the break 3-0 up and fully deserved it. Boca had hit the post and bar during brief periods of pressure but it was the sheer effort from an energetic Northam team which shone through over a home side still in the Rock Park changing room.

But once again, count Boca out at your peril. After the half-time grilling Boca immediately started on the front foot and pulled the first goal back from midfielder Mike Cowell. Boca created chance after chance and their endeavour was rewarded with a spot-kick in a very congested penalty area, Mark Barrow despatching in the normal manner. Soon after, Chris Collins powerfully directed header found the net after superb work in the corner from strike partner Richard Shannon. Amazingly, Boca took the most unlikely of leads thanks to the excellent Cowell's second of the match. Surely Boca couldn't do it again? Well, no actually.

Taking the lead seemed to force the champions into repeating the same mistakes from the first half and they sat back. Lions took advantage of that defensiveness and sneaked in at the back post from a corner to equalise and secure a share of the spoils, on the balance of play, deservedly so.

Man-of-the-match: Mike Cowell - determined second half performance and two goals. Back to his early season form.

24.10.07 - Boca Seniors 5 Hartland 3

Last year's runners up Boca made a solid if unspectacular start to this year's Torridge Cup campaign under the lights on an excellent Vicarage Road pitch. The game started with some slick football from the 'home' side with Richard Shannon, Tarrant Wotton and the returning Matt Deakin all involved. That possession was rewarded after fifteen minutes with two quick goals from Wotton and Deakin, the second a superb move thanks to a great through ball from Mark Barrow.

Rather than press on to score more goals, Boca found themselves on level terms after a spirited and energetic fightback from Hartland. Liam Monsell restored the lead thanks to a deflected strike from twenty yards but that goal was pegged back soon after making the scores level at half-time.

Stern words were exchanged at half-time in the Boca dressing room and a more organised defensive line managed to keep the visitors out for the duration of the second half, partly in thanks to Darren Babb's fantastic double save. Two goals, including one fantastic strike from the corner of the penalty area from top scorer Richard Shannon put the tie beyond doubt and Boca into the next round.

Man-of-the-match: Tarrant Wotton

20.10.07 - Boca Seniors 6 Kilkhampton 0

Mark the date in your calendar-Satuday 20th October 2007-the first clean sheet of the season has been achieved! Thanks to an all round generally solid performance all over the field, 'keeper Darren Babb can finally hold his head up high. A Chris Collins hat trick, two from Sid Daniel and a first of the campaign from Daniel Mackie condemned bottom side Kilkhampton to another defeat.

Man-of-the-match: Daniel Mackie

13.10.07 - Northam Lions 3 Boca Seniors 4

Before the match all the talk was about the fabled clean sheet with the possibility of a few goals to boost the goal difference against a Lions side second from bottom, but after 71 minutes Boca would've settled for three goals and a point. Thanks to more uncertain defending from the visitors they found themselves three down without a prayer. But the champs seem to be made of stern stuff these days, probably thanks to the experience of winning back-to-back league titles, and began the most unlikely of comebacks with 19 minutes to go.

Sid Daniel got the ball rolling with a finish from close range and that strike was closely followed up by Richie Joslin's powerful shot from 15 yards. More good work from Joslin was rewarded after being brought down in the area for a penalty, which Mark Barrow despatched in the usual manner.

The comeback of the season was complete with 7 minutes to go. After good work from Richard Shannon, Sid Daniel nodded home the winner, turning in Barrow's cross/shot.

Four goals in 12 crazy minutes and the unbeaten run continues...

Man-of-the-match: Brad Munden - didn't deserve to be on the losing side whatever the score. Tough tackling from the first minute.

06.10.07 - Boca Seniors 8 Morwenstow 4

Having a nigh-on full squad to choose from probably for the first time in a while, Boca Manager Darren Todd chose to stick with the attacking line-up which served him so well at Bradworthy a fortnight ago. That selection was justified with some slick passing football particularly in the first half. The formation also paid dividends in terms of goals scored-eight in total, thanks to braces from Matt Deakin, Chris Collins and Mark Barrow and singles from Sid Daniel and a rejuvenated Tarrant Wotton.

But it was a day to forget for Boca's number one, Darren Babb, letting in four at the other end, generally against the run of play. Credit to Morwenstow, what they may lack in overall depth of quality, they more than made up for in pride and effort, battling until the final whistle. On this performance it's easy to see why they have taken points from Braunton and Georgeham so far this season.

Boca will be pleased with the three points, their fifth on the spin, if a little embarrassed by the scoreline but their form remains good.

Man-of-the-match: Richard Joslin - playing in an unfamiliar position but adapted very well, made some great tackles and linked up well down Boca's left. Tireless from the first whistle.

22.09.07 - Bradworthy 1 Boca Seniors 3

After recent doubts from people in and around the local game, Richard Shannon is beginning to answer his critics. He took his tally to eight for the season with three goals in a devastating fifteen minute spell. And those goals came from the most unusual source-two with his 'weaker' right foot and one with his head!

It was the most attacking line up in Boca history, even the goalkeeper was an outfield player. Due to injury and absence, manager Darren Todd was forced to playing midfielders Matt Deakin and Liam Monsell at full back and centre back Shaun Ley in goal. Amazingly that formation was rewarded with Boca's best football of the season in the first half.

On twenty minutes Shannon got the ball rolling with a neat finish into the bottom corner. But five minutes later, against the run of play the home side equalised. Stand-in 'keeper Ley saved well but the ball ended up loose and the Bradworthy striker tucked home from close range.

Boca retook and extended the lead soon after with Shannon completing his hat-trick, making the points safe for the visitors. His third an excellent header into the stanchion following a great clearance down field.

So Shannon writes the headlines for the second week in a row. He may be unpredictable, but that's why we love him.

Man-of-the-match: Richard Shannon - 'the cannon' has rediscovered his best. North Devon beware!

15.09.07 - Boca Seniors 3 Hartland 1

Saturday's match was one of two halves in terms of performance for Boca. The first 45 minutes saw the hosts play some nice passing football without creating many clear cut opportunities. It wasn't for want of trying though, with strike partners Karl Allsop and Richard Shannon ever industrious up front, particularly Shannon with a welcome return to form. And to emphasise the point, Boca's first goal came from a brilliant Mark Barrow free-kick which looked to be too far out to trouble the Hartland 'keeper. Half chances came and went and it was Shannon who extended the home side's lead 2 minutes from half time with a finish typical of 'the mercurial one'. Darren Babb's pass was flicked on and in one move Shannon rounded the 'keeper and slotted home from an acute angle.

The second half was a very flat affair with little ideas from both sides. And despite Boca's undoubted dominance, Hartland to their credit seized upon flat-footedness in the Boca back line and drew a goal back. Like a wounded animal though, the champions restored their two-goal lead thanks to substitute Richard Joslin's determined run and excellent finish.

Man-of-the-match: Richard Shannon - with many people doubting his desire and fitness, 'the Cannon' answered his critics with a hard-working performance and a great goal.

08.09.07 - Boca Seniors 1 Plymouth Parkway 3

If you want to know how seriously North Devon clubs take the Devon Premier Cup, check the draw for the second round and see how many clubs are left in the hat today. Potential away days to Plymouth, Torquay or God knows where aren't every players idea of fun. Nevertheless, Boca always show respect to the competition by putting out a team and participating every year. And with early season form a little indifferent, these games provide a good opportunity to improve fitness and confidence.

Disregard the half-time 3-0 scoreline, the home side more than matched the visitors for ninety minutes and if it wasn't for some poor finishing, the end result may have been very different. The second half was a much tighter, scrappier affair but Boca were rewarded for their endeavours 20 minutes from time thanks to Liam Monsell's second goal of the season.

The North Devon side welcomed back Lewis Ovey from a trip to the US and his presence in the back four was obvious from the first minute. His composure on the ball is something the Boca back line have been missing early doors.

So the result may have been disappointing, but the performance more than made up for it with special mentions for Matt Deakin, Shaun Ley and the returning Ovey. It's back to NDL duty this Saturday when Hartland are the visitors and with a full squad to choose from, Boca will hope to take this match's form to the game and make it three league wins on the bounce.

Man-of-the-match: Matt Deakin - typical determined Deaks performance.

04.09.07 - Boca Seniors 5 North Molton 4

"If you score four, we'll score five"...

would appear to be the early season tactics being employed by Boca and those tactics were once again proven at the Tarka Centre on Tuesday night against a determined and physical North Molton side, keen to prove their worth in North Devon's top flight.

Last season's Senior Division champions gave Boca a real test going one-nil up not long after the kick-off. The Premier champions soon responded, levelling matters through Mike Cowell's finish, his second in as many games. The ex-Dolton player is proving to be a big asset in the heart of the Boca midfield.

Boca's recent defensive frailties were highlighted soon after when Molton reclaimed the lead. That lead lasted for ten minutes until James Galliford's superb turn and volley not dissimilar to Chris Collins' effort on Saturday against Barnstaple AAC. For the first time in the match the home side took the lead from a Matt Deakin penalty after Jake Crush was tripped in the box.

Five minutes after half-time striker Richard Shannon made the score 4-2 following good work from Cowell. And ten minutes later new boy Kevin greaves cooly slotted home to seemingly put the game beyond the reach of the visitors. Molton had other ideas though and scored two quick goals to make the last five minutes very uncomfortable for the home bench. Boca held firm however and hung on to secure another three points. And with the quartet of Giles Daniel, Mark Barrow (suspension), Shaun Ley (injury) and 2006 Player's Player Lewis Ovey returning to bolster the squad, Boca will look to put their recent indifferent defensive form behind them in time for the visit of Hartland.

Man-of-the-match: Matt Deakin - solid in three positions and a goal from the spot

Boca Seniors 7 Barnstaple AAC 3

After Tuesday's thrashing at the hands of Braunton, Boca reacted in the best possible manner in the Barnstaple derby, but it certainly wasn't plain sailing. After five minutes the home side found themselves one down. The scores were soon level thanks to Chris Collins' finish from twenty yards after a defensive mix up. And Boca took the lead soon after from Richard Shannon's neat chip. However, a young, fit AAC side refused to accept the scoreline and not only levelled but went ahead in part to errors from the usually fautless Darren Babb. Babbsy's time would come later in the game but it was worrying times for the Boca defence. Boca somehow weathered the storm and Liam Monsell claimed his first goal of the campaign, rifling a shot into the far corner of the net. At half-time it was anyone's game. The second half mostly belonged to Boca who seemed to find their rhythm and confidence and they took the lead thanks to Mike Cowell's scrambled first for the club.

Ammies were awarded a penalty soon after a correctly disallowed Boca effort but it was Babb who made amends for his earlier errors with a great save. From then on in it was Boca all the way and the tie was put beyond the reach of the visitors thanks to goals from Brad Munden and another two from man-of-the match Collins including an early contender for goal of the season. Following a flowing Boca move, with seemingly nowhere to go on the byline, he flicked the ball up and volleyed superbly off the cross bar from the tightest of angles sealing all three points for the champions.

Man-of-the match: Chris Collins - tireless workrate, hat-trick & goal of the season contender to boot

28.08.07 - Braunton 5 Boca Seniors 0

Braunton claimed some revenge from last year's triple disappointment of losing the title race, Brayford and Westward Ho! Cup finals with a comprehensive beating of Boca on Tuesday night at Lobb Fields. The home side took advantage of some disorganised defending to take a two-nil lead going into half-time, the second goal almost being the last touch of the half. Braunton's lead was extended to three and the tie was effectively put beyond Boca ten minutes after the restart. Things went from bad to worse for Boca when Sid Daniel was substituted directly after the goal due to concussion. Braunton then added a further two goals to seal a well-deserved win.

On the brightside for the champions, there were glimpses of form, especially when four-nil down!

25.08.07 - Appledore Reserves 2 Boca Seniors 3

Goals from Richard Shannon, Sid Daniel and a winner five minutes from time from Matt Deakin sealed all three points in a topsy-turvy match. The scoreline doesn't reflect the dominance from the away side who fully deserved the win.

28.07.07 - Crediton United 1 v Boca Seniors 3

Boca's first run out since the Brayford Cup Final was the perfect way to start pre-season with a 3-1 away win over a mix of Crediton's first and second XI. Second half strikes from new signings Karl Allsop and Chris Collins and 'Sid' Daniels opener in first half injury time gave the visitors a comfortable victory with Crediton's consolation coming in the final ten minutes.

Allsop and fellow new signing Richard Joslin put in hard-working performances with both having a hand in each of the goals.

Considering the lack of match practice, fitness levels were surprisingly good. They can only improve further with forthcoming friendlies against Torridgeside and Appledore.
